About BEAM

The mission of BEAM is to create pathways for students from lowincome and underserved communities to become scientists mathematicians engineers and computer scientists. Led by staff with these same technical backgrounds BEAM believes that pathways to STEM careers are created through community individual support and access to advanced work that typically lies outside most school curricula. We work to directly support students and to transition them to other supportive enrichment programs that enable their future success.

BEAMs model provides continuous support from middle school through college graduation including intense academic summer programs for middle school students (after 6th and 7th grade) weekend classes and mentoring and STEMfocused support through college. Our program includes not just access to learning advanced math but also support finding and applying to other opportunities including support with college admissions and financial aid. In addition to our academic content bringing students into community is a key part of our mission and all of our work is designed to support that goal.

BEAM has grown from a small summer program serving 17 students in the summer of 2011 to a yearround national program serving 420 students at six summer program sites and 600 students in yearround programming in New York City and Los Angeles this school year. In addition our BEAM National pilot program now reaches over 500 elementaryaged students in seven different states working to create a new nationwide pathway modeled on our local work.

With our strategic plan our team has committed to transforming the organization from a successful startup to a more mature and scalable organization that can drive change across the country.

About the Advancement team:

At BEAM our Advancement team is a collaborative and dynamic group of six fulltime staff members working together to make sure we have the resources to fuel big dreams. Foundations currently provide about 40% of BEAMs revenue (with individuals contributing 45% and corporations 15%) and building strong lasting relationships with funders is at the heart of what we do.

As our Grants Manager youll work handinhand with the Director of Institutional Giving to grow and deepen our foundation partnerships. Together youll help raise more than $4 million annually critical funding that will drive innovation and provide stability as we build towards future growth. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in building the foundation (literally and figuratively!) for BEAMs future.

About the Grants Manager role:

Beyond technical expertise were looking for someone whos excited to tell BEAMs story connect with others and think strategically about how we grow.

The Grants Manager will be an experienced development professional who knows the ins and outs of grant writing prospect research and funder stewardship. But just as importantly theyll be a critical thinker creative problemsolver and trusted collaborator someone whos comfortable juggling projects meeting deadlines and staying grounded in the mission behind the work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Grant Writing and Management of Related Processes (80%)

  • Manage a portfolio of grants up to $100000 including writing and submitting proposals and reports and compiling accompanying materials in a timely manner.
  • Work with the Director of Finance and Administration to prepare financial information for grant proposals and reports including budgets financial summaries/budget narratives and more.
  • Help manage a library of grant language and resources.
  • Maintain the grants calendar; input all annual deadlines for reports renewals and proposals.
  • Develop and implement collaborative processes with the Finance and Learning and Evaluation teams relating to grants.
  • Represent BEAM in communications with funders.

Prospect Research (10%)

  • Conduct prospect research using BEAMs prospect research tools (Candid Foundation Directory Instrumentl etc.) to identify and qualify new institutional funders (including foundations corporations and government agencies)

Grants Management and Administration (10%)

  • Maintain master data records related to grant submissions and tracking and ensure data and deadlines are accurate in Salesforce.
  • Provide general administrative support for the Director of Institutional Giving.
  • Prepare agendas and track followups for interdepartmental grants meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with the Advancement team on special projects as needed.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

We understand that there are many paths to acquiring experience and therefore welcome candidates from diverse and nontraditional backgrounds for this role who have demonstrated equivalent transferable skills to carry out the major duties outlined in this job description.

  • 35 years of fundraising or equivalent professional experience.
  • Knowledge of grant writing and fundraising best practices.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex concepts into strategic and compelling narratives.
  • Strong research skills; proficiency with Candid Foundation Directory Instrumentl and other research websites a plus.
  • Ability to understand and analyze data and ensure that BEAMs data presentation accurately captures our program outcomes.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects and absorb a lot of information in a fastpaced deadlinedriven environment.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Highly collaborative with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for BEAMs mission and strong interest in being part of a team working to support underserved students and their families.

Significant pluses may include:

  • Salesforce or other relevant CRM database experience.
  • Experience with STEM STEM education educational equity and/or racial justice issues.
  • Knowledge of New York City and Los Angeles funding landscapes.
  • Familiarity with AI grant writing tools a plus.

SALARY BENEFITS AND OTHER DETAILS

The expected salary range for this position is $65000$85000 depending on experience and background.
