Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE: The role of the consulting teacher is to provide support and assistance including consultation regarding effective teaching strategies materials and resources assessment procedures and effective programming using current research and practices as the foundation. The consulting teacher will provide ongoing jobembedded professional development to classified and certified staff to support effective teaching and learning resulting in improved student learning for students in the secondary Dual Language Program have a strong commitment to student learning and the school improvement process and provide leadership for curriculum and assessment initiatives. The consulting teacher will serve as a liaison between building staff district personnel and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in education
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Administrative certification preferred
  • ESOL endorsement preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of the Gmez & Gmez Dual Language Enrichment Model
  • Extensive knowledge of assessment instruction classroom management instructional resources and technology
  • Knowledge of TPS course/grade level standards
  • Strong organizational team building communication and consultation skills
  • Three years of successful teaching experience with language learners using the Gmez & Gmez Dual Enrichment Model
  • Knowledge of policies regulations goals and objectives of the district
  • The successful candidate must have transportation and be able to travel to schools to meet with teachers and administrators. The candidate must have good communication skills as well as strong knowledge of EL/DL issues and the effect of such on children and youth.

PHYSICAL/EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

The incumbent may be required to use the following requirements during any part of the working day: Speaking hearing visual reading writing word processing mobility consistency of temperament ability to work with a variety of problems at the same time stamina for working long hours and in stress producing environments.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan/Provide professional development opportunities districtwide
  • Consult with classroom teachers and building principals.
  • Observe classrooms and provide consistent feedback.
  • Assist with program planning.
  • Problem solve collaboratively.
  • Analyze students work.
  • Model coplan and/or coteach lessons.
  • Coordinate the ordering and maintaining of Spanish instructional materials supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with the testing related to the Dual Language Program.
  • Monitor the curriculum by facilitating the Spanish Curriculum and Assessment Team.
  • Plan and provide professional development for teachers in the Dual Language Program.
  • Assist with the recruitment and retention of bilingual teachers.
  • Assist with obtaining grant money to help acquire necessary funding to maintain and enhance the Dual Language Program that the district is unable to fund.
  • Assist with marketing and advertising of the program.
  • Maintain and continue to update the Dual Language Guiding Document.
  • All other assignments designated by the General Director of Cultural Innovation.

Terms of Employment: 9 month teacher contract plus addendum for up to 10 additional duty days plus addendum for consulting teacher; salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education and according to the Professional Agreement.

Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board policy on evaluation of Certified Personnel.

Significant Associations: The performance responsibilities are not limited to those outlined in this description and may include any other responsibilities as assigned by the

administrator/supervisor.

The incumbent may be required to use the below requirements during any part of the working day:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk sit talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to interact with staff and to meet demands from several people.
