SUMMARY: The Student Support Case Manager and Behavior Support Specialist provides individualized case management and behavioral intervention support to address barriers that prevent students from fully accessing their educational experience. This role collaborates with teachers administrative staff and parents to ensure the effective implementation of services that support positive outcomes.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Case Management
- Collaborate with student support staff administrators and other district personnel to ensure effective delivery of services and appropriate use of resources.
- Work closely with IEP/MET chairs schoolbased teams district psychometrists school psychologists and the Director of Student Support to ensure compliance with Child Find timely completion of MET meetings and evaluations within required timelines.
- Facilitate complex IEP meetings and support the development of individualized compliant and educationally relevant IEPs.
- Monitor IEP implementation modifications and accommodations to ensure fidelity and compliance.
- Serve as LEA designee when appropriate and assist in the review of IEPs for new and transferring students to ensure proper placement and support.
- Support scheduling course selection and service coordination for students across programs and schools.
- Facilitate timely completion of evaluations and reevaluations in collaboration with the psychometrist including data collection and eligibility documentation.
- Maintain accurate student records eligibility files and log student data in IEP management software MSIS and other student management systems.
Behavior Support (SelfContained Classrooms Focus)
- Provide coaching modeling and consultation to teachers in selfcontained classrooms to support students with behavioral and emotional challenges.
- Assist in developing and implementing behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and classroom behavior supports.
- Monitor and analyze student discipline data for students with disabilities to ensure appropriate procedures are followed and supports are effective.
- Support staff in crisis situations and help develop proactive strategies to manage behavior and maintain a safe supportive learning environment.
Collaboration & Communication
- Serve as a point of contact for families ensuring clear communication support and access to procedural safeguards.
- Collaborate with outside agencies to coordinate services as identified by the IEP team (e.g. MDRS mental health providers).
- Conduct regular meetings with student support teams to review student progress compliance and best practices.
- Assist in training and mentoring new student support staff paraprofessionals and related service providers.
- Provide professional development on student support processes behavior management and instructional strategies.
Additional Duties
- Coordinate transportation and instructional supply orders for students and staff as outlined in IEPs.
- Support state testing procedures ensuring proper accommodations are provided and staff are trained on expectations.
- Respond to emergency situations as needed and assist schools in addressing urgent student needs.
- Maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders including administrators staff families and service providers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Mississippi Educator license with special education endorsement.
- At least three years of experience teaching students with disabilities (five or more years preferred) including experience in selfcontained classrooms.
- Ability to follow the referral to placement process and knowledge of eligibility criteria.
- Experience with behavior intervention plan development and implementation.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters degree preferred
- Awareness of cognitive/behavioral therapy
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Environment: Standard office and school settings to include classrooms gyms libraries cafeterias and recreational areas; moderate travel; exposure to potentially stressful environments; regularly perform inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
Physical: Sufficient physical ability to perform moderate lifting up to 25 pounds; regularly required to walk sit or stand for prolonged periods of time; may require climbing stooping kneeling or crouching.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction; the noise level in the work environment is moderate.
