Job Description

The Transitional Day Program (TDP) is a dropin center for homeless youth 1824 years old in Boston. Youth utilizing the TDP are typically sleeping outside staying in emergency shelters or couch surfing. The TDP offers survival services (food showers laundry & clothing) as well as intensive case management and support services to help youth move beyond the streets into safe and stable housing. The TDP Counselor is responsible for overseeing the program milieu building therapeutic rapport with youth and providing case management services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Supervision of the program Milieu / DropinUtilizingeffective crisis management/intervention skills.
  • Administer/coordinate programparticipantsbasic needs and survival services; including breakfast lunch showers laundry computer games field trips outings and physical exercise.
  • Provideandfacilitateskillsbuilding group activities and workshops.
  • Manage intensive case management; including initiating referrals as needed.
  • Connectprogram participantswith opportunities to engage services; including education employment housing mental healthcare and substance abuse service.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Comfort and confidence working in a fastpaced dynamic work environment.
  • Enthusiastic about working with homeless transitional youth population.
  • Ability toidentifyand execute effective problemsolving strategies. Mustpossesssound crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to develop andmaintainprofessional working relationships with residents staff coworkers and supervisor.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and cultural groups.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 2 or more years of experience working with youth ages 1824 in one or more of the following areas: housing management job development community relations substance abuse or recreational counseling.
  • Bachelors degree in human services Social Work or any related degree is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Required to be able to standwalkand sit.
  • Able to routinely lift carry and move materials weighing 25 pounds.

COMPENSATION

The hourly rate for this role is set at $20.00an hour
