Position Summary
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This role involves analyzing drawings specifications and other documentation to prepare time cost and labor estimates. The Estimator works closely with project managers architects subcontractors and clients to ensure timely and costeffective project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze blueprints specifications proposals and other documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates.
Collaborate with architects engineers clients and subcontractors to clarify project scope and details.
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive pricing.
Develop and maintain cost databases and unit pricing records.
Prepare and present bid packages and proposals in a clear professional manner.
Participate in prebid meetings site visits and project walkthroughs.
Identify and assess potential risks including scope gaps and pricing inconsistencies.
Track and analyze historical cost data and market trends.
Assist in value engineering budgeting and project scheduling when required.
Support the transition from preconstruction to operations by providing detailed handoff documentation.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Construction Management Engineering or related field (or equivalent work experience).
3 years of experience in estimating commercial construction projects.
Strong understanding of construction methods materials and building codes.
Proficiency in estimating software (e.g. Bluebeam ProEst PlanSwift Sage Estimating or similar).
Excellent analytical organizational and communication skills.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Detailoriented with strong math and computer skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple estimates under tight deadlines.
Preferred Skills
Experience estimating projects in sectors such as healthcare education retail or hospitality.
Familiarity with BIM and digital takeoff tools.
LEED accreditation or knowledge of sustainable building practices.
