Job Description

SUMMARY:

The centralized scheduler will receive incoming calls for scheduling radiology procedures; insure proper instruction of preps with lack of scheduling conflicts; maintain scheduling to ensure completeness and accuracy of all radiology modalities; exhibit excellent customer relations to patients physicians and coworkers. The Precertification Specialist is responsible for collecting complete accurate information securing appropriate physician orders assisting in resolution or problems associated with departmental activities effective communication and customer relation skills ability to be self directed. Serves as a liaison for relaying patient authorization information to staff and physicians. Maintains records on all referrals/precertifications. Maintains patient followup tickler system. Provides back up telephone coverage for the Scheduling department as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Formal training which will probably be indicated by a high school diploma or equivalent; possess moderate computer skills; high
level organizational skills which must include good followup; be selfmotivated; knowledge of medical terminology; demonstrated ability to
communicate effectively and to work compatibly with patients physicians and other staff members; ability to type
45wpm with a minimum 6 months clerical experience in a medical office setting is preferred.

Ideal candidate will possess: (1) excellent communication skills (2) excellent phone skills (3) ability to work in close situations with coworkers (4) ability to follow through on matters started by a coworker (for example handle return phone calls made by a coworker when he/she cannot accept a call); this qualification is critical the employee must be willing to pick up on any matter that has been started by a coworker (flexibility) (5) ability to document information well (6) ability to remain professional when presented with difficulty/stress (7) knowledge of medical terminology (8) familiarity with ICD9 and CPT codes (9) good organizational skills.

PHYSICAL GUIDELINES:

Physical guidelines include the ability to move traverse position self remain in a stationary position and negotiate steps for up to eight hours per day. Manipulate computer requiring motor coordination and manual dexterity. Must understand verbal communication and be able to
communicate over the telephone. Reading ability is necessary to understand medical records and physician orders. Visual acuity required for fine print.
