As a Development Scientist the candidate will be responsible for conducting leading edge research and development activities with a specific application to manufacturing production or quality operations or similar national security applications. The candidate participates in the development research and/or design of new types of proposed improvements in production and formulation of broad programs and mandatory requirements. The candidate will serve as the primary laboratory operator for various research projects in chemistry instrumental analysis and material science. Candidate must be able to perform hands on work in the laboratory with minimal supervision. Candidate would work within an R&D organization with a focus on material analysis spectroscopy and emerging technologies that may be applied to the nuclear security and nonproliferation industry.
Performs difficult and complex technical project assignments requiring wet lab work instrumental analysis and data logging and transfer. Education and/or background in subjects such as analytical chemistry physical chemistry (including lab courses) wet lab courses with lab instrumental analysis and material science coursework are highly desired. Candidate must also work well in a production support environment where plant and production needs may necessitate accelerated project schedules.
In addition the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e. Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major 2 years jobrelated and 1year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2A)
