Team Lead - Mechanical Engineering

Job Summary:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Team Lead Mechanical Engineering within the Naval Engineering department reporting to the Engineering Manager Naval. This role requires strong leadership communication technical expertise and planning skills to ensure the delivery of highquality cost effective and sustainable mechanical engineering solutions.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle for our Naval Handling products which include Replenishment at Sea (RAS) Systems and Mission Bay Handling Systems.

Due to security restrictions the successful candidate will be required to attain UK BPSS and SC Clearance with no caveats.

Key Responsibilities:

• Overall leadership and management of the mechanical engineering team based in the UK and Europe.
• Ensuring the mechanical engineering team has the appropriate people processes and tools to successfully execute its scope and taking a proactive lead to rectify where there are deficiencies.
• Estimating and delivering in accordance with the estimate mechanical engineering scope for all projects including Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) engineering design inservice support Research & Development (R&D) and New Sales Opportunities.
• Manage project budgets resources and schedules for all mechanical engineering scope.
• Monitor and analyse project performance metrics implementing improvements where necessary.
• Collaborate with clients internal and external stakeholders to ensure project success.
• Build and mentor a highperforming team fostering professional development.
• Build an innovation culture within the team to ensure our products remain at the cutting edge of naval technology.
• Develop mechanical engineering solutions that meet customer requirements.
• Provide technical reference / guidance to equipment suppliers internal departments and customers. Approve / witness factory tests and inspections at suppliers works.
• Manage supplier interfaces and provide technical assistance / approval to suppliers.
• Checking the technical work of others and provide technical guidance to colleagues in other departments and to suppliers and customers.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering (Masters degree preferred).
• Chartered Engineer preferred.
• Proven experience (5 years) engineering leadership experience relevant to this role.
• Proven experience (10 years) mechanical engineering experience relevant to this role.
• Experience of working in a highly regulated industry.
• Excellent project management and leadership abilities.
• Proven ability to design and prepare detailed mechanical designs drawings and calculations.
• Proficiency in mechanical engineering software and tools (2D and 3D) relevant to the marine industry.
• Excellent communication problemsolving and decisionmaking skills.
• Strong people skills and communication skills both verbal and written.

Location:
The role is based in Gateshead United Kingdom and a hybrid working arrangement is available (3 days a week in the office).
