What is this career opportunity
The Department of Administrations General Services Division (GSD) is looking for a serviceoriented individual with transport driving forklift and mechanic experience to join their Surplus Property team! You would be part of a small team that is responsible for the acquisition and disposal of State and Federal surplus property. Surplus property includes assets such as office equipment and furniture vehicles heavy machinery and other unique and interesting items and you would transport these items.
You would also operate a forklift predominantly in a gravel yard moving heavy equipment and attachments. You would be responsible for the display of the surplus goods assisting with selling of those goods routine maintenance on equipment and various other tasks to support the team. Traveling the beautiful State of Montana is a substantial part of this position; you would be doing day trips up to 50% of the time with an occasional overnight trip.

What are we looking for

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and two or more years applicable work experience; OR
  • Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a casebycase basis.
  • (CDL a Heavy Equipment Operators Certification and/or forklift experience would be a plus!)

Competencies:

Knowledge of:

  • Methods and techniques for moving loading and transporting goods on trucks and trailers considering weight distribution and other critical factors
  • Inventory management receiving and evaluating property

Ability to:

  • Provide excellent professional customer service
  • Communicate appropriately in a variety of settings using professional judgment and discretion
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Problem solve analyze data understand trends and develop recommendations for action based on the analysis;
  • Think creatively and innovatively
  • Work independently with little supervision and as part of a team
  • Recognize the importance of safety in the workplace follow safety rules practice safe work habits utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions
  • Safely and competently operate large trucks vehicles towing trailers winches forklifts lift gates hand trucks etc.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple tasks
