Job Description
For our UX Team based in Berlin we are looking for a UX Designer (all genders) fulltime or parttime (3040 hours / week) ideally starting 01.08.2025 or sooner.
As this position is a temporary replacement the contract is limited until January 2027.
This position is designed as a hybrid working model with regular presence in our Berlin office.
As the UX Designer for Wikibase Cloud (all genders) you will collaborate inside of your crossfunctional team and work closely to its Product Manager and UX Researcher to identify key problems and ideate and deliver highquality inclusive and accessible solutions for a worldwide community of users for one of Wikimedia Deutschlands main products: Wikibase Cloud.
Wikibase Cloud is an opensource software as a service for creating collaborative knowledge bases opening the door to the Linked Open Data web. It has the goal of giving more people access to knowledge and you will be part of that! The role will report to the Head of UX and is part of the UX team which currently counts eight team members (UX Designers and UX Researchers). The mission of the UX team is to build an understanding of our users and their needs which will be translated into the journeys built in our different products. We aim at creating a better understanding of knowledge equity and to design digital experiences that empower users to contribute to the Wikimedia movement no matter their background or ability.
- You are responsible for designing and evaluating the user experience of Wikibase Cloud and its features in alignment with the Wikibase Cloud product strategy.
- You will work with user flows lowfidelity & highfidelity mockups and designs in order to demonstrate your ideas.
- You will use your skills and knowledge to support your team at the different stages of the product life cycle: from strategy to prioritization and from product discovery to delivery and evaluation.
- You will work closely with product managers community communication managers and software engineers at every stage of the product life cycle.
- You will center the community of users and editors in your work finding opportunities to include them with participatory methods throughout the product development cycle.
- You will distill complex concepts into easytounderstand designs and prototypes and validate them through design reviews and usability testing.
- You will follow Wikimedia design standards to create highfidelity UI designs and handover specifications for developers.
- You are experienced in defining use cases workflows interactions and interfaces which are easy to understand efficient versatile and follow industry best practices.
- You can handle complexity and are able to define experiments to progressively validate assumptions and bring more clarity and empathy throughout your team. Consequently you are familiar with conducting or supporting user research and other evaluation methods as well as designing and prototyping journeys (we use Figma).
- You are wellversed in recognizing and acknowledging existing design patterns as well as introducing new ones to make products usable and useful for our diverse community.
- Youre familiar with design systems and have experience applying internal design principles collaboratively.
- You have experience designing iteratively and working in close collaboration with the members of a crossfunctional team with e.g. product managers UX designers and researchers community communication managers and engineers in an agile environment. Moreover you care about learning from your team members and sharing your knowledge.
- Next to your verbal communication abilities you use your written and visual communication skills to present your findings as well as rationalizing your designs to various stakeholders within your project. You can communicate in English on a professional level knowledge of German is a plus but not a requirement.
- You have studied or are educated in a design related field or have gained similar competencies. You have solid working experience as a UX designer.
- You have a UX design portfolio ready to show and are able to add it to your application.
