Job Description
The University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) is seeking an Assistant Professor to support and complement the Department of Physiology & Cell Biologys existing strengths in the teaching of medical gross anatomy and clinical neuroanatomy. This individual will be expected to fulfill the educational service and scholarly activity objectives of UNR Med. A strong record of successfully managing a substantial teaching load and conducting independent or collaborative research is highly valued. Preference will be given to investigators involved in neuroscience or cancer research though those focusing on other systems will also be considered.
The anatomy faculty are committed to excellence and innovation in anatomy education advancing knowledge by supporting our basic science research developing new teaching methodologies and integrating advanced educational technology. The candidate should be approachable comfortable working with students and capable of delivering accurate and stimulating curricula as well as developing appropriate lab and lecture examinations in gross anatomy related to any organ system. UNR Med utilizes a cadaveric dissection program as part of the curriculum for medical students. Accordingly the successful candidate must be comfortable and experienced with teaching in a gross anatomy lab possess excellent dissection skills and be able to interpret plain films CT MRI and sonographic images as an adjunct to teaching and learning anatomy.
Responsibilities Include:
Lecture and laboratory instruction in clinical gross anatomy and neuroanatomy
Curriculum development and assessment creation
Committee work and service to the university
Research or other scholarly activities
Meeting the Universitys regulatory requirements related to teaching and research
Other responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair or Dean
The ideal candidate will showcase experience teaching in a medical school both in didactic and laboratory settings a commitment to the education of future providers and their success interest or experience in curricular development or course direction and the ability to translate complex concepts effectively to learners to ensure educational outcomes. Required Qualifications:
The candidate must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in Anatomy Neuroscience Cell and Molecular Biology Physiology or another related field. The successful candidate must demonstrate a history of teaching gross anatomy at the medical school level.
Preferred Qualifications:
Neuroanatomy teaching experience
Dissectionbased lab experience
Radiological anatomy experience
Teaching experience in didactic as well as laboratory settings
Research experience targeting neuroscience or cancer including the ability to sustain an active research program supported by extramural funding and resulting in publications in peerreviewed journals
