Job Summary
The Process Specialist is responsible for safely diagnosing and remedying safety quality production and equipment problems as expeditiously as possible without compromising safety or quality.
Essential Functions

- Manufacturing Excellence Avient Protective Materials wants to be best in class in every respect including manufacturing. To excel in manufacturing we need to optimize how we do things. Everyone within the organization has at least one role within Manufacturing Excellence. Roles and responsibilities are defined and assigned to those involved in the different Manufacturing Excellence Work Processes.
- Ensures that all work is conducted in a safe and effective manner and all applicable procedures and policies are followed by monitoring and providing at four (4) safety observations per month. Monitors safety and quality reports and take immediate action as a daily first priority to correct any safety and quality situations to ensure compliance with established parameters. Plans the detailed lockout and tagout program for each major maintenance STOP and ensures that this is done properly.
- Abides by Avient Protective Materials procedures/policies regarding security inclusive of: employee security agreements; use of nondisclosure agreements with outside parties; control of Avient Protective Materials intellectual property limited to a need to know only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones cameras computers or APM property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of APM property and keys.
- Troubleshoots using various tools and PC based programs. Must use the Microsoft Excel program to provide information regarding such. Write reports on findings. Uses this information to drive the process back to stability and to make improvements. Predict potential problems as a result of using these tools. Participates and/or leads RCAs as needed. Analyzes data from all production ovens (i.e. yarn break)
- Monitors optimal performance of production lines as well as utilities and other items pertinent to ensuring a safe stable quality process that meets our monthly production targets. Take immediate action as a daily first priority to correct the situation and bring the process back in line with established parameters. This is done in conjunction with other departments such as Engineering Maintenance and Production personnel to make repairs recipe changes procedural updates and by issuing temporary change controls.
- Review quality and performance data daily to determine where immediate efforts are needed. Understands at an advanced level the cause and effect relationship between process parameters and raw materials. Uses this to help Plant Services refine recipes.
- Proficient in the operation of all production and monitoring equipment and systems.
- Coordinates and helps determine best practices across all shifts ensures documents are updated and appropriate training executed. Appraise supervision and Line Specialist of new developments results from troubleshooting efforts best practices and repairs.
- Interacts and work closely with Process Engineer and supervision to determine best practices updates procedures and conducts training for Technicians and ensure effective communication of production and compliance related changes in procedures are consistent across shifts.
- Identifies potential production problems investigate; recommend solutions to correct them and report variances as required.
- Maintains rapport with other departments such as Engineering Maintenance and Production personnel to make repairs recipe changes and procedural updates issuing temporary change controls and participating in RCAs.
- Facilitates teamwork and resources for the team to fulfill production demands as well as encourage team members to understand corporate and departmental goals/objectives and needs by disseminating needed divisional unit and corporate information to employees on a timely basis.
- May be required to plans the use of raw and intermediate materials for optimum quality and output. Reviews and updates schedules for production lines including planning resources for production demands. Authors and approves SOPs. Assist supervisor with evaluating training needs and assist in conducting formalized training for technicians.
- May be required to issue work notifications and coordinate repairs and PMs with maintenance for more complicated issues. Monitors whereabouts of visitors and location(s) of maintenance work.
- Assists Engineering with trails. Makes minor recipe adjustments as needed.
- If applicable monitors and oversees the winder and block programs for optimal performance. Train technicians and mechanics as needed.
- Help determine routine maintenance intervals PMs proper preventive and corrective techniques determine spare parts FMEAs.

- Comply with all jobrelated safety and other training requirements.
- Maintain annual training requirements on hazardous waste by reviewing DYNPRO SHE DYN 653 and general awareness presentation. Specific job holders will complete more detailed training as well.

- Authorized to approve work permits per details included in DYNPRO SHE DYN 026. If so authorized employee must maintain necessary refresher training to participate in these activities

This position involves work with (supervision of) and/or handling hazardous materials and waste at the Avient Protective Materials (Greenville NC) work site. Worker has the appropriate qualifications to read understand apply and communicate written and verbal information regarding handling and managing hazardous wastes. Training is required within six months of worker assuming duty and once a year thereafter. Worker is responsible for proper handling documentation inspection and transporting around the facility of hazardous wastes. Worker may also be responsible for responding to emergencies involving hazardous waste.
Education and Experience
- BS/BA in related technical field with 1 year of manufacturing experience or AA/AS degree in a technical field with 2 years relevant experience or 3 years relevant experience.
- Knowledge of appropriate safety procedures
- Knowledge of changeovers/cleaning/setup work instructions
- Knowledge of typical utility system operations associated with fiber manufacturing processes.
- Ability to perform mathematical computation; problem solving.
- Knowledge of performance standards.
