Job Description

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for delivering instruction managing the classroom environment and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This role requires adaptability effective communication and a commitment to maintaining a positive educational environment.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction and Delivery

  • Implement lesson plans that the absent teacher provides or create appropriate instructional plans when necessary.
  • Utilize effective teaching strategies to engage students in learning activities.

Classroom Management and Supervision

  • Maintain a positive safe and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Implement effective classroom management techniques to promote student engagement and discipline.
  • Supervise students during classroom activities transitions lunch and recess as assigned.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of students at all times.

Communication and Professional Conduct

  • Communicate effectively with students staff and administrators.
  • Provide feedback to the regular classroom teacher regarding student performance and behavior.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with students staff and parents.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information per school policies and legal requirements.

Other Responsibilities (As Needed)
This description outlines the positions primary duties; however substitute teachers may be required to perform other jobrelated tasks as directed by their supervisor or the School Principal to ensure smooth school operations.


Qualifications :

Education: High school diploma or equivalent for shortterm assignments required; Bachelors degree preferred.
Experience: Prior teaching or substitute experience preferred.

  • Must pass state and federal background checks including fingerprinting and child maltreatment registry checks.
  • Ongoing participation in professional development activities as required by ADE.
  • Strong knowledge in core academic subjects; proficiency in integrating technology into instruction.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.


Additional Information :

Substitute teacher wages will be based on experience and within the SY 202526 Salary Schedule range.
