Chair of Medicine Opportunity Vassar Brothers Medical Center Poughkeepsie New York (75 minutes north of New York City)
Vassar Brothers Medical Center located 75 minutes north of New York City has an excellent opportunity for a Chair of Medicine. This is a unique opportunity to be a clinical and academic leader for Vassars senior leadership team as well as a regional medical leader in a growing health system. The Chair of Medicine will oversee a large group of both community and employed physicians faculty postgraduate staff and students.
Vassars Department of Medicine has a growing team of 350 medical experts across 18 sections and services covering a broad spectrum of medical care. The Department of Medicine at Vassar Brothers is committed to active involvement in medical education at all levels including undergraduate medical education graduate medical education (residents and fellows) and continuing medical education. Vassar Brothers sponsors eight residency training programs a categorical internal medicine program a primary care program and a primary care residency.
The Chair of Medicine at Vassar Brothers Medical Center will be responsible for overseeing all administrative and clinical functions of Medical Services in order to provide highquality costeffective care to patients. He/she will share responsibility for the supervision and direction of daytoday operations and services with the appropriate administrative partners. The Chair will establish performance targets for areas of responsibility and manage performance. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Medical Affairs at Vassar.
The ideal candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 years of demonstrated accomplishment as a member of a leadership team of a large community teaching hospital and/or academic medical center.
- A regional or national reputation as an outstanding clinician/educator in medicine.
- A proven track record as an effective leader focused on action and outcomes in a complex highly competitive setting.
- Exceptional analytic and communication skills with the ability to successfully manage diverse relationships.
- Creativity and innovation to drive new ideas and possibilities.
- The candidate must be MD/DO with completed residency training and board certification in Internal Medicine.
- NY state licensure (or eligibility to obtain NY state licensure) is required.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the overall direction operation and management of the Department including quality peer review medical education and research.
- Provides leadership and direction in divisional meetings Chair meetings Medical Staff Executive Committee meetings Service Excellence Group meetings and Department Section Chiefs meetings.
- Partners with other clinical departments in program development.
- Maintains a partnership with counterparts at other system hospitals to promote standardization of care.
- Ensures compliance with applicable policies procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Works with the Internal Medicine Residency Program Director and is responsible for assisting with oversight of the Internal Medicine Residency Program.
- Clinical responsibilities in appropriate area and participates in the teaching program.
- Serves as an organizational leader and role model.
- Provides leadership guidance and analysis to fulfill system goals and to serve patients in the region.
