Job Description

Reporting to the Associate Vice President Advancement and Alumni Relations the Director Alumni and Annual Giving is responsible for the strategic direction planning oversight design and implementation of Sheridans alumni relations and annual giving and awards fundraising programs.

Together these programs must align to support Sheridans strategic directions academic priorities and deliver on the annual revenue targets. In addition the Director Alumni and Annual Giving is expected to support other forms of private revenue generation including a pipeline for major giving and revenue generated through alumni affinity partnership programs and recruitment strategies.

What Youll Be Doing

  • Providing expertise and leadership through the development of strategic priorities that reflect best practices relating to alumni relations and annual giving and ensure that departmental goals are achieved or exceeded.
  • Directing all annual giving fundraising campaigns including awards research campaign design prospect identification volunteer management donor solicitation stewardship and ongoing communication/liaison.
  • Ensures that all policies procedures and processes associated with accurate and timely gift processing are followed. This includes adherence to Canadian government legislation as it relates to gift receipting.
  • Providing direction oversight and management of Sheridans overall alumni strategy in partnership with Sheridans key faculties departments and programs.
  • Accountable for ensuring funding support from various partners ensuring the department is financially self supporting.
  • Providing leadership and direction to department managers and through them to indirect staff.
  • Maintaining a high level of performance by recruiting selecting training managing performance and evaluating staff.
  • Responsible for the quality and professionalism of all activities within the Alumni and Annual Giving department by effectively building and managing the Departments budgets.
  • Providing senior consultation in the development of strategic directions for the Department and the design of policies and procedures to support those directions.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

About You
You have the skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse student and staff population as well as a proven commitment to antioppression equity and inclusion.

You have excellent oral and written communication skills persuasiveness and perseverance.

You bring sound understanding of project management principles and tools and can multitask prioritize balance and manage multiple complex and competing demands.

Ability to maintain confidentiality lead and delegate are critical to the success of this position.

Proven ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders including students faculty staff donors community groups volunteers and corporate and government leaders.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:

  • 4year bachelors degree in fundraising business development marketing communications public administration or a related field of study.
  • 7 years of and experience with fundraising/annual giving techniques and methodologies alumni relations and alumni development strategy (Equivalency will be considered).
  • Ability to analyze research as it pertains to annual corporate and foundation giving.
  • Experience negotiating at a senior level with corporate leaders contributors and targeted prospects.
  • Mediation skills to deal effectively with external stakeholders volunteers faculty and staff.
