Position Title: Director of School Health Services
Lexington Public Schools seeks applicants of diverse backgrounds and experiences for the position of Director of Health Services PreK 12.

Terms of Employment: 207 day work year. Benefits and salary in accordance with the
ALA collective bargaining agreement. Willingness to flex workday hours to attend meetings/appointments
August 25 2025 start date extra days may start prior to August 25.
ALA Category II: ALA Salary Schedules FY26
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Masters Degree preferred
- Current Massachusetts Registration in Nursing
- MA Department of Secondary and Elementary Education Certified
- School Nurse Experience
- MA Department of Secondary and Elementary Education Certified
Director/Supervisor
- Minimum of five years of School Nursing experience preferred
- CPR Certification
- Strong knowledge of community needs and resources
- Strong interpersonal skills responsibility for professional practice
- Able to confidently and independently solve problems knowing when to
seek others input as needed
Goals:
- Monitor and promote the Health Wellness and Safety of Students/Staff
- Recruit and retain Nurse Staffing and provide Professional Development for Nurses
- Review/develop Health/Safety and Wellness procedures and protocols
- Conduct all phases of the Health Services Team Evaluation Process goal development observations coaching and evaluation
- Oversee and develop the Health Services Budget
- Monitor and promote nurse representation in district/community committees
- Monitor and meet the requirements of the Comprehensive School Health Services(CSHS) Grant (MA DPH)
Responsibilities:
Supervision:
- Nursing Staff and School Health Programs
- Actively recruit school nurses for LPS
- Interview and provide feedback for nurses working with Lexington students who
may be placed in an outofdistrict placement such as 1:1 or transport nurses
- Orient school nurses (which can be delegated to an experienced district nurse)
- Assign Mentors to new LPS school nurses
- Retain School Nursing Staff
- Supervise/evaluate all clinical nursing staff providing services to the School Health Program as well as unlicensed personnel who are members or provide services to the department (including selfassessments goal development observations coaching selfreflections and evaluations)
- Responsible for arranging coverage and providing coverage if needed for all school clinics due to absences field trips or an increase in acuity levels
- Conducts monthly health Services staff meetings according to the LEA unit A contract
Clinical
- Provides clinical consultation to the nursing staff
- Serves as a consultant to administrators and staff
- Arranges vaccine clinics for students staff families and community members
- Manages the districts medication delegation program which includes an annual application and ensures each student has a medication administration plan
- Applies for and manages the CLIA waiver for the district
- Participates in interdisciplinary teams such as the crisis team emergency planning team 504 and IEP planning to ensure that integrated systems are in place that address the comprehensive health wellness and safety needs of the student population
- Constructs and reviews the MERP (Medical Emergency Response Plans) the medical portion of the plans. File these plans with DESE as needed.
- Ensures there is an individual healthcare plan (IHCP) and medical emergency care plan in place for students as needed and that these plans are communicated with staff and community emergency workers
- Ensures that communicable disease prevention and surveillance guidelines are implemented and updated according to the MA DPH
- Develops and implements written policies protocols and procedures for clinical services and programs addressing health issues including the oversight of the home hospital tutoring process.
Administrative
- Ensures health information is translated as needed
- Manages and monitors the electronic health record system (SNAP) and aggregates data to identify health needs and acuity within the student population. This includes managing the templates and keeping data up to date.
- Review data to identify health status indicators and make adjustments to the School Health Program
- During health crises the Director of Health Services will serve as a conduit between MA DESE MA DPH and the Lexington Health Department. The Lexington Health Department is the governing agency during health crises.
- Serves as School Health expert on community initiatives including communicable disease management lifethreatening allergies injury prevention wellness promotion and risky behavior prevention.
- Prepares manages and administers the Health Services budget accessing opportunities to apply for grants and other external sources of funding such as the CSHS grant
- Maintains adequate medical and health service supplies and equipment technology and furnishing for health offices
- Adheres to the requirements of the CSHS grant (awarded by MA DPH)
- Develops questionnaires surveys and other tools for conducting needs assessment (of nursing staff student health/safety/wellness needs and community needs)
Professional Development
- Develops annual training for staff related to LTA including anaphylaxis and administration of emergency epinephrine and bloodborne pathogens
- Oversees professional development for nursing staff
- Conducts a needs assessment of nursing staff learning needs/requests
- Encourages nursing staff to participate in pertinent conferences and workshops related to school health issues
- Encourages staff to sit for the National School Nurse Certification Exam
- Develops partnerships with local educational institutions to provide student clinical experiences in the school setting and to obtain assistance with the nurses continuing education
- Develops relationships with other educational settings in the community such as Minuteman Technical School to utilize their students in healthrelated screening endeavors
