Job Description
High School Music Teacher Position
Type: FullTime Position
Overview: Waltham High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated High School Music Teacher to lead and inspire students in various music courses including Latin Guitar Beginning & Intermediate Guitar Beginning Piano Intro to Rock Band Advanced Rock Band Music Technology and Newcomers Music Exploration. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in music education instrumental performance and ensemble direction with a commitment to fostering a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to students skill levels and musical interests. Teach fundamental and advanced music concepts including technique theory improvisation and performance skills. Lead and direct beginning and intermediate guitar classes ensuring students develop proper technique and foundational musical knowledge. Introduce students to Latin guitar styles focusing on rhythm fingerpicking and cultural influences. Guide students in beginning piano emphasizing note reading hand coordination and basic musical expression. Oversee Intro to Rock Band and Advanced Rock Band teaching instrument proficiency ensemble collaboration and live performance techniques. Facilitate the Newcomers Music Exploration course providing an inclusive environment for students new to music helping them explore various instruments and styles. Organize and direct student performances including school concerts recitals and community events. Assess student progress through assignments performances and written evaluations. Maintain and manage classroom instruments and equipment. Encourage creativity teamwork and musical appreciation in students of diverse backgrounds and skill levels. Stay current with music education best practices and incorporate modern teaching techniques. Have experience with Digital Audio Workstations for our Music Technology Piano Lab
Qualifications: Education: Bachelors degree in Music Education Music Performance or a related field (Masters preferred). Certification: Valid state teaching certification in Music.
Experience: Prior experience teaching music at the high school level preferred; experience leading ensembles and bands is a plus.
Skills: Proficiency in guitar piano and various rock band instruments. Strong knowledge of music theory composition and improvisation. Ability to teach a diverse range of musical genres and styles. Excellent classroom management and communication skills. Experience organizing student performances and extracurricular music activities. Preferred
Qualifications: Experience working with students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Ability to incorporate technology into music instruction. Experience arranging and transcribing music for student ensembles. Experience with music composition Active or prior experience as a professional musician
