This posting is for an Engineering Technician III position in the Division 9 Forsyth County Maintenance office. This position will be responsible for technical support to the Forsyth County Maintenance Department. This position will assist in the inspection of commercial driveway permits rightofway utility encroachments erosion control traffic control devices and roadway construction. Position performs routine inspections on a variety of projects to ensure general compliance with plans and specifications and submits required records reports and diaries within a specified time frame. The employee in this position will be subject to both inside and outside extreme environmental conditions in addition to hazards at highway construction sites including heavy equipment and highway traffic. This position will respond to snow and ice events and other weatherrelated events as needed. The primary location is in Forsyth County but can include statewide if needed. The employee in this position is expected to obtain and keep current QMS Asphalt and Concrete Testing Certifications Roadway Density Certifications and Erosion Control Levels II and III Certifications.

Physical activities include but are not limited to standing walking talking and hearing. Exposed to extreme conditions such as ice snow difficult terrain dust extreme heat and cold high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safetytoed shoes required.
This position will be responsible for transporting inmates for work detail. An inmate card approved by the NC Department of Public Safety must be issued to NCDOT employees to transport inmates. In order to obtain an inmate card applicants must undergo a criminal history check complete necessary training and orientation and be at least 21 years of age.

Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
