Job Description

JOB GOAL:

To strengthen the instructional capacity of infant/toddler paraprofessionals by deepening their understanding of early childhood development and effective teaching practices. This position aims to enhance the quality of care and instruction through onsite coaching realtime professional development modeling of best practices and use of data to drive continuous improvement. The ultimate goal is to support the healthy growth and development of young children by ensuring highquality developmentally appropriate experiences in infant/toddler classrooms.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This position is Ten and onefourth (10.25) month contract (210days) plus a benefits package.NOTE:Precise placement within the teacher salary schedule will be determined based on experience and LRSDs salary placement guidelines.FLSA: EXEMPT.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Masters degree in Early Childhood Education.
  2. Current Arkansas Teachers License in Elementary Education P4 or Early Childhood Education (must include Preschool).
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in instructional practices for young children with sensitivity to individual needs and cultural differences.
  4. Ability to apply current educational theories and practices related to children birth to kindergarten including:
  • Understanding of growth and developmental stages
  • Strong grasp of cultural socioeconomic ethnic and gender differences
  • Effective communication with children families administrators community members and support staff
  1. Willingness to complete required Infant/Toddler ABC trainings and participate in ongoing professional development and coaching.
  2. Commitment to continuous staff development including modeling of new instructional techniques in classroom settings.
  3. Ability and willingness to create handson educational materials aligned to curriculum goals and concepts.

The superintendent may deem appropriate such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.

  1. Adheres to all laws regulations and requirements of Department of Education (ADE) Office of Early Childhood (OEC) andArkansas Better Chance (ABC).
  2. Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administration regulation.
  3. Plans instruction designed to promote the social physical and intellectual growth and development of young children; formatively assesses student progress and modifies instructional techniques; plans a program of study that meets the individual needs interests and abilities of the students; refers children to support services within the community as needed.
  4. Guides the learning process toward the achievements of curriculum goals by establishing clear objectives for all lessons units and projects; integrates skills into units and learning centers in the classroom.
  5. Prepares for instruction and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor; plansweeklyactivities for paraprofessional; employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to meet individual student needs and learning styles.
  6. Models developmentally appropriate lessons for paraprofessionals to use in their classrooms
  7. Implements innovative researchbased instructional strategies assessments and techniques as requested by the Early Childhood Department.
  8. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students; maintain a classroom climate which is equitable and responsive to student needs.
  9. Maintains an inventory all equipment furniture and large center items; maintains a clean and orderly classroom.
  10. Monitors individual and/or group activities to prevent accidents and promote social skills; takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment material and facilities.
  11. Works with families to promote cooperation understanding of development and participation in the program; assumes responsibility for encouraging and involving parents and community in decision making relative to the development and implementation of programs at the building level.
  12. Promotes the community spirit of the school by being responsible to the needs of the administration staff and children of the school at all times; uses language that is encouraging and constructive in tone and volume when communicating with children or parents.
  13. Maintains professionalism in punctuality and attendance at required meetings and events.
  14. Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Mental Functions Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit stand walk go up and down stairs operate foot and hand controls use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound near and far vision depth perception handling and working with educational materials and/or objects and providing oral information. Must be able to work for the duration of the daily contracted time and be physically present and at assigned work with only infrequent unexcused absences during the contract year. Additional technical skills knowledge and abilities may be recommended by the Human Resources Director and approved by the immediate supervisor.
