    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. California credential to teach vocal and/or instrumental music
    2. Bachelors degree with music major or minor desirable
    3. Ability to play at least one standard orchestral instrument ability to play piano and/or guitar and sing
    4. Ability to motivate children to perform in music

    REPORTS TO:Coordinator Visual and Performing Arts

    JOB GOAL: To develop in each pupil appreciation of art of music as part of general culture; to teach techniques of vocal and/or instrumental music expression; to discover and develop talents of pupils in field of music; to develop knowledge and skills in listening and reading music; to meet goals established in Districts Purposes of Instruction Course of Study and Curriculum Guide in relationship to specific needs of all students under his/her direction

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. In cooperation with Coordinator Visual and Performing Arts and other staff members plans instructionalobjectives for assigned grade level or subject area consistent with Course of Study and Curriculum Guidewhich meet Districts and schools educational goals. Objectives are to be established by October 15 of each year
    2. Creates classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to maturity and interest of thestudents; participates with staff in establishing and maintaining effective learning climate within school;develops reasonable and specific rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in classroomin fair and just manner
    3. Analyzes learning capacity of students and provides for their needs; plans balanced music program andorganizes class time so that preparation rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within allotted time.
    4. Guides learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear performance objectivesas listed in Course of Study and Curriculum Guide for instrumental music for all lessons projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students
    5. Instructs pupils in citizenship specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of school district
    6. Makes referral to principal on pupils who demonstrate severe unsocial behavior patterns
    7. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide orderly productive environment duringpractice group rehearsals and musical performances
    8. Keeps weekly records and evaluates each pupils musical growth (practice slips) and performance assessingeach individuals contribution to performance of group; confers with colleagues students and parentsregarding pupil progress as needed; assigns citizenship and scholarship marks
    9. Maintains positive relationship with all staff and parents through backtoschool events open houseclassroom visitations conferences written communication and work samples so that parents and staff are aware of students progress and adjustment
    10. Cooperates with school administration in providing musical programs for school productions P.T.A. Districtfestival concert and civic functions
    11. Plans rehearses and directs pupils in musical programs for school and community; applies knowledge ofDistrict procedures and limitations set on performance
    12. Instrumental music teachers provide individual and small group instructions in order to adapt curriculum toneeds of each pupil
    13. Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature including traditional and contemporary that are appropriatefor ages and skill levels of pupils
    14. Controls storage and use of schoolowned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs toinstruments as required; has pianos tuned at least once a year
    15. Selects and requisitions books sheet music musical instruments and instructional aids and supplies; maintainsrequired inventory records
    16. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupilssolve health attitude and learning problems; makes referrals as required
    17. Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law District policy and administrativeregulations including lesson schedule attendance reports Reports to Parents and annual report
    18. Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules administrative regulations and Board policy
    19. Carries out assigned pupil supervision outside classroom such as assemblies and extracurricular activities andfire and other emergency drills
    20. Attends and participates in staff meetings inservice meetings curriculum development materials evaluationand ParentTeacher Association
    21. Maintains professional competence through inservice education provided by District and/or in selfselectedgrowth activities related to music
    22. Participates cooperatively with Coordinator Visual and Performing Arts to develop method by which he/shewill be evaluated in conformance with District guidelines

    SALARY: Salary and work year to be according to current schedule:BCSD teacher salary schedule.
    $59232 $118012 annually (182 day)All teacher salaries are contingent onverified years of experinece and education

    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Districts Improvement of Professional Services handbook Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operators license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
