Job Description

Job Title: Education Specialist

Wage/Hour Status: NonExempt

Pay Group:Salary Plan

Primary Purpose: Responsible for districtwide identification of resources training reporting and coordination related to the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelors degree from a college/university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE).

Two years of fulltime wageearning experience in supporting students with disabilities special education education English as a Second Language programming social sciences or other areas focusing on individuals with disabilities or related fields.

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to provide the applicant with the knowledge skills and ability to perform the jobs essential functions successfully will be considered.

This position requires personal technology that will enable the completion of job duties and responsibilities when working remotely.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of best practices regarding different testing accommodations based on disability English as a Second Language (ESL) programming equity inclusion and cultural competence related to instruction and education.

Developing and delivering training and professional development in person and via remote technology.

Knowledge of state and federal education statutes.

Listen and communicate effectively with staff students residents and TDCJ staff regarding various topics related to ADA accommodations ESL programming or other federal program areas.

Evaluate recommend and implement improvements to programs.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Follows the processes to promptly and equitably resolve campus complaints and inquiries regarding educationrelated accommodation requests and overall ADA education compliance.

Create maintain and modify as needed a districtwide ESL model to include identification and implementation of curriculum training and ongoing support.

Work collaboratively with campus administration to monitor student placement and the implementation of all approved services and supports.

Maintains a record adequate records of all disability and accommodation requests issues and resolutions.

Coordinate the overall activities related to the assessment and placement of ESL students.

In conjunction with the supervisor facilitate ESL ADA and related training for staff regarding accessibility for students with disabilities rights and responsibilities meeting guidelines reasonable accommodations and educational resources and policies.

Assist with the daytoday operations and services of the department.

Collaborate with other relevant agencies.

***Travel extensively across the district to ensure compliance with the ADA IDEA ESL and relevant Windham policies.

Policy Reports and Law:

Coordinate with WSD divisions of operations and instruction to provide process and analyze data on special programs to report and improve effectiveness.

Develop and deliver professional training for staff throughout the district.

Maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information received during the performance of job duties.

Professionally perform duties through daily punctual attendance at work assignment location.

Follow Windham School District policies and procedures when completing assigned job duties.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Environmental Demands:

Work inside and outside noise radiant/electrical energy work alone work with others around machines with moving parts and objects possible exposure to microwaves in use exposure to hot and cold temperatures exposure to dust and cleaning chemicals.
