A position has been declared open by the Ogden School District for a Mentor to adult teachers enrolled in the OSD competencybased English as a Second Language Endorsement for theschool year.

Mentors play a key role in guiding adult learners through the 5 ESL Endorsement courses by offering individualized support feedback and encouragement as participants work to demonstrate ESL instructional competencies. They serve as a bridge between course content and practical application helping ensure participants achieve success in both theory and practice. Mentors will be paid $3600 per school year by Payment for Extra Services for successfully meeting the terms of the Mentor MOU.
Under the direction of the Cultural Linguistic Diversity Teacher Specialists and the courseinstructor the Mentor:
- Will provide individualized support to endorsement participants as they work towards being able to demonstrate competency in the theories principles and practices of creating successful learning environments for students learning English
- Will create an environment favorable to adult learning and personal growth
- Will use formative data to guide mentorship to help all endorsement participants succeed academically and demonstrate competency
- Will collaborate closely with the course instructor to guide endorsement participants in the successful implementation and demonstration of the course competencybased objectives
- Will attend and lead sections of 4 facetoface class meetings per 12week term.
- Will attend mentor training sessions during the first 12week term.
- Will demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission and conform to endorsement policies including attendance absences and evaluations.
The successful candidate demonstrates these characteristics and strengths:
- Utah Teaching License with an ESL Endorsement
- Successful experience in working with English Learner (EL) students
- Ability to work collaboratively with adults
- Familiarity with both online and facetoface instruction
- Ability to maintain a positive atmosphere conducive to adult learning models when working with course instructors and endorsement participants
- Strong commitment to endorsement participants success
- Successful experience in implementing useful diagnostic and progress assessment measures to gauge participant progress and possible need for extra mentorship
- Proactive and clear communication skills
- Adherence to professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission
