Job Description

ABOUT YWCA AUSTRALIA

We are a proudly feminist not-for-profit organisation and for over 140 years we have been working at the forefront of gender equality through our housing community programs and new 5-year strategy the YWCA Evolve Strategy (YeS 2026) has recently been launched with a focus on making young womens leadership and womens housing our priority for gender equity in Australia. This will ensure we continue to deliver measurable and meaningful impact towards a future where gender equality is a reality.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

YWCA Australia is currently seeking dedicated Mentors to join our Asista program based in Melbourne. These positions are on a volunteer basis with an expected commitment of 2-6 hours per fortnight for a minimum 1 year duration. Asista Mentoring Program utilises the power of role models to positively impact girls and young people of diverse gender aged 12 18 in the child protection system on their journey to adulthood.

Whilst experiencing new social and recreational activities participants develop genuine and reciprocal relationships that build self-esteem confidence and personal development. Volunteer mentors are supported with consistent training and supervision.

YWCAs Asista Mentoring Program was established in 1998 to meet the needs of young women and young people of diverse gender who are clients of Department of Family Fairness and Housing (DFFH) Child Protection System in the Northern and Western Metro Regions of Melbourne.

Asista Mentoring Program was developed by YWCA Australia and is one of states longest running mentor programs offered to young women and people of diverse gender in partnership with the Victorian Government.

Asista Mentoring Program reflects our priority to create spaces for women especially young women to become leaders and drive positive change.

Our goal is to ensure that young women and people of diverse gender in the child protection system have the positive role models and influences on their journey to adulthood who exercise power and choice in pursuing their goals and aspirations.

ABOUT YOU

The ideal applicant will have:

  • Current Victorian driver licence and access to a car
  • A minimum one-year commitment once paired (option to extend)
