Overview
The Director GEAR UP (Program Coordinator SR) has primary responsibility for ensuring the success of the USU STARS! GEAR UP project. USU STARS! GEAR UP is a federally funded program designed to help students prepare for and succeed in college. GEAR UP starts working with students in 7th grade then follows those same students up through their first year out of high school. Schools and community partners have teamed up to provide services to students parents and educators to increase academic rigor knowledge of financial aid and enrollment and success in higher education. Responsibilities
The primary duty is to be responsible for the overall management of the project leading the management team working with all the partners and serving as the liaison to the U.S. Department of Educations GEAR UP Office. Other duties may include the following:
- The Director has primary responsibility for ensuring the success of the USU STARS! GEAR UP grant. These responsibilities include meeting goals and objectives identified in the proposal; establishing and meeting obligations as identified in subcontracts with schools and business partners.
- Hiring terminating training and developing reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff. Planning organizational structure and job content. Conducting annual performance appraisals for direct reports; review/approve annual performance appraisals conducted by first line supervisors.
- Managing grant fiscal and personnel resources effectively and responsibly in accordance with applicable university state and federal policies.
- Maintains a strong and productive working relationship with staff faculty administration partners and the sponsor.
Lead the close out of the grant which involves wrapping up all budget needs developing record keeping strategies and final reporting.
Commits to integrity; performs duties with diligence in accordance with professional standards and enforces University policies and procedures; uses relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws regulations or standards
Participate in professional development attend seminars and conferences and maintain professional contacts win the community to remain knowledgeable of current college access and success best practices.
Disseminate evidencedbased program impacts to local and national audiences
Effectively communicate with Executive Director Department of Education Project Program Officer and external evaluator
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- M.A. in Education or related field plus two years of experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working with and understanding the needs of the target population.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching and administrative experience along P20 education spectrum
- Five years of experience in program administration with educational or community service programming
- Experience with partnership projects and/or GEAR UP
- Experience with college development of middle and high school students
- Experience with federal grants
- Possess skills and aptitude as specified below:
- Demonstrated ability to write and speak clearly to various stakeholders
- Experience supervising work of others including planning assigning scheduling and reviewing work ensuring quality standards. Is responsible for hiring terminating training and developing reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff. Plans organizational structure and job content.
- Ability to set own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow although precedents may exist; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction.
- Ability to problem solve issues that are varied requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation. Problems are solved using knowledge and skills and general precedents and practices.
- Proven proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
