Job Description

Overview

The Community First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Residency Program at ProACT Critical Care Academy provides an immersive handson teaching experience for aspiring and certified instructors. This residency offers the opportunity to refine teaching skills gain confidence and contribute to the safety and preparedness of the community. Residents will utilize ProACTs stateoftheart facilities modern equipment and resources while teaching American Red Cross courses.

Program Objectives

  • Develop practical teaching skills for First Aid CPR and AED classes.
  • Enhance knowledge of American Red Cross course materials teaching methodologies and equipment use.
  • Foster the ability to adapt teaching styles to diverse learner needs and environments.
  • Build leadership communication and critical thinking skills through realworld instruction.
  • Contribute to the ProACT mission of creating safer more prepared communities.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Hold current certification as an American Red Cross Instructor (or obtain certification prior to residency start).
  • Demonstrate a commitment to teaching and community health and safety.
  • Be available to teach six classes over the eightmonth duration.
  • Pass a background check.

Program Structure

The eightmonth residency program is designed to be flexible allowing residents to coordinate their schedule with supervising instructors. The program includes the following components:

Orientation and Initial Training:

  1. Orientation to ProACTs mission facilities and resources.
  2. Comprehensive training on ProACTs instructional standards and equipment.
  3. Observation of experienced instructors teaching community classes.

CoTeaching:

  1. Collaborate with experienced instructors to coteach at least one class.
  2. Gain familiarity with class delivery teaching methodologies and skill evaluations.
  3. Receive feedback and coaching from ProACTs Training Coordinators.

Independent Teaching:

  1. After coteaching at least one class residents may begin teaching independently.
  2. Teach a total of six First Aid/CPR/AED classes over the eightmonth program.
  3. Manage all aspects of class delivery including setup instruction and postclass reporting.

Ongoing Feedback and Mentorship:

  1. Receive regular feedback from supervising instructors and training coordinators.
  2. Participate in mentorship sessions to refine teaching skills and address challenges.

Final Evaluation:

  1. Conduct a final independent teaching session observed by ProACT leadership.
  2. Participate in a oneonone feedback session to review performance strengths and growth areas.
  3. Develop a personal teaching improvement plan.
