Job Description

Introduction

NATURE OF WORK: The fundamental reasonthis classification exists is to perform participatory recreation work. These full time positions are located atMontgomery County Parks and Recreation Community Centers. Employees oversee the use of a recreationfacility to include maintenance scheduling and documenting/reporting. Theprimary work responsibilities of this position are: performs reporting duties; monitorsthe facility; performs administrative duties; oversees recreation programs andactivities in the facility; completes department forms reports and records; plans and schedules seasonal programs by estimation; actively leadsrecreation programs as needed; oversees/supervises rec aides and volunteers;and designs flyers brochures and calendars of events in coordination withCounty Manager of Public Relations and Director of Parks and Recreation. The employee reportsdirectly to the County Parks and Recreation Director.

Nature of Work

WORK RESPONSIBILITIES: The following list of work responsibilities wasdeveloped through a job analysis; however it is not exhaustive and otherduties may be required and assigned.

Performsreporting duties to include receiving/collecting funds and completing financialand accident reports.

Monitorsthe facility to include inspecting the facility and grounds for repairrequesting maintenance work on the facility overseeing/inspecting maintenanceand repair work.

Performsadministrative duties to include scheduling rentals overseeing special eventsrequesting equipment and supplies and opening/closing the facility.

Overseesrecreational programs and activities in the facility during the eveningweekends and summer.

Completesdepartment forms reports and records and maintains records and files toinclude employee time records and program participation records.

Plansand schedules seasonal programs by estimating the participation levelsdetermining public interest in the program scheduling and promoting theprogram assigning staff and enrolling participants.

Activelyleads recreation programs as needed based on public needs or demands staffavailability and expertise.

Oversees/supervisesrec aides and volunteers to implement recreational programs.

Designsflyers brochures and calendars of events to publicize programs and activities tothe public schools etc.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of departmentalprocedures and requirements regarding the use of the facility the handling ofdisciplinary problems and procuring supplies as needed to ensure goals andobjectives are carried out according to departmental standards and procedures.

Knowledgeof methods and means of identifying community resources and neighborhoodinterest to include coordinating programs with school principals teacherscommunity leaders and churches as needed to plan and administer specialprograms.

Knowledgeof basic math skills to include addition subtraction multiplication anddivision as needed to count monies and maintain accurate financial records andreports.

Knowledgeof financial procedures to include allocating and disbursing funds andmonitoring expenditures as needed to remain within financial parameters.

Knowledgeof basic recreation programming to include both active and passive programs asneeded to oversee the administrative and operational activities at recreationalcenters.

Knowledgeof proper instructional methods and techniques as appropriate for teachingrecreation programs to all ages.

Abilityto lead instruct and participate in several types of recreation programactivities.

Abilityto use a personal computer to include keyboard layout function keys how toaccess and use software as needed tocreate save retrieve organize and delete files.

Abilityto operate onroad vehicles to include cars vans and buses as needed totransport center participants to and from the center field trips and otherspecial events or functions.

Abilityto communicate orally to include being clear and concise and adjustingappropriate level of communication as needed to relay information to staffvolunteers other agencies and the public or to respond to inquiries.

Abilityto maintain confidentiality with regards to Personnelmatters programs and participants.

Abilityto communicate in writing to include clarity sentence structure spelling andbasic grammar logical ordering of information and ideas as needed to designflyers and prepare correspondence and maintain records and reports.

Abilityto prepare reports and maintain accurate records to include attendance andfinancial reports and time sheets as needed to carry out existing programsand activities.

Abilityto interact with children and adults of all ages to include courtesy tactpatience knowing when to be firm using a calm and neutral tone of voicelistening hearing both sides without judging and recognizing when to dispenseof conversation and compose thoughts as needed to resolve conflict exchangeinformation oversee programs and assign work duties.

Abilityto supervise volunteers to include training monitoring work performanceproviding guidance coordinating work schedules counseling and approving leaverequests as needed to ensure work is performed correctly.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED and two (2) yearsof experience overseeing facilities and leading recreational programs.

NOTE: Qualifying educationtraining and experience that provide the requisite knowledge skills andabilities to perform the job will be considered.
