Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP)
Student Success Agency (SSA) Volunteer Posting Announcement
Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a statewide grant program provided by the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) funded by the United States Department of Education (USDE). The GEAR UP program goals are:
Increase the number of Nevada GEAR UP students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.
Increase Nevada GEAR UP students and families knowledge of postsecondary education options preparation and financing.
Increase the rate of high school graduation and enrollment in postsecondary education for Nevada GEAR UP students. GEAR UP works in conjunction with Nevada school districts the Nevada System of Higher Education local businesses and nonprofit organizations to achieve these goals. GEAR UP provides supportive services such as tutoring mentoring academic advising career counseling as well as other services aimed at increasing the number of students graduating from Nevada high schools. NDE will partner with the Student Success Agency (SSA) to support and facilitate student participation in Nevada GEAR UPs comprehensive mentoring program. The SSA mentor volunteers are located in over 100 universities around the nation and are paired with students based on the students academic and career interests.
You must be an approved SSA mentor before applying for this volunteer position with CCSD.
