Job Description

Peak Potential Therapy is seeking a passionate and experienced Special Needs Camp Lead with a strong background in working with individuals with autism developmental delay and behavior issues. The ideal candidate will lead our special needs camp program ensuring a safe inclusive and enriching experience for campers with diverse abilities. This role involves overseeing all aspects of the camp including program development staff management and creating an environment that fosters growth and positive social interactions.

Responsibilities:

  1. Program Development:
    1. Implement a specialized camp curriculum catering to the needs and interests of campers with special needs.
    2. Develop activities that promote social skills sensoryfriendly experiences and individualized learning.
    3. Lead a group of 3 to 5 campers with special needs with the assistance of volunteers and/or aides to do a variety of activities (games art science projects etc.) at camp.
  2. Camp Staff Management:
    1. Supervise camp aides ensuring they have the necessary skills and understanding to support campers with autism and other disabilities.
    2. Provide ongoing guidance and professional development opportunities for staff.
  3. Inclusion & Accessibility:
    1. collaborate with relevant professionals to ensure camp facilities and activities are accessible to all campers irrespective of their abilities.
    2. Implement inclusive practices that accommodate various learning styles.
  4. Safety & WellBeing:
    1. Establish and enforce safety protocols emergency procedures and behavioral management strategies.
    2. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding camper wellbeing and progress.

Qualifications:

  • Hands on / direct experience with kids with disabilities: 1 year (Required)
  • Bachelors degree in a related field (Education Special Education Psychology etc.).
  • Proven experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum preferably in a camp or recreational setting.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to manage a diverse team.
  • Knowledge of best practices in special needs education and inclusive program development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
