Special Education Teacher (Certified)

Specialized Programs and Services to Support the Development of Young Children

Providence is an Alberta Education approved ECS program with a longestablished history of providing therapeutic and educational services to children across 7 schools in Calgary. Our programs are designed to support young children who may not be meeting typical developmental milestones. We are currently seeking dedicated individuals to join our school as a FullTime Special Education Teacher (certified) for theschool year.

The ideal candidate should:
  • Possess broad background and extensive knowledge of best practices methods and strategies for working with and teaching children with complex needs
  • Have demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students colleagues parents and other stakeholders
  • Be adaptable. Children are busy and active so you are too. Adaptability is important because every day will be different and the candidate will have to navigate their way through rapidly changing environments with enthusiasm problemsolving skills and humour
  • Be flexible curious creative and able to multitask in our everevolving world in pediatrics
  • Enjoy working with a multidisciplinary team to deliver childfocused services


Responsibilities Include to:
  • Plan and Implement programs following Alberta Education ECS guidelines
  • Provide developmentally appropriate and engaging learning opportunities to special education children in a vibrant playbased program
  • Establish and maintain a classroom that is safe stimulating and age appropriate
  • Provide written reports or update relating to the childrens progress and goals as described in their IPPS
  • Supervise and lead a team of paraprofessionals providing clear direction and setting high expectations


Qualifications:
  • Must have an Education degree from a recognized Canadian university
  • Valid Alberta Interim/Permanent Teacher Certificate
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Experience working as a Teacher with children that display challenging behaviour or have disabilities
  • Demonstrate strong organizational interpersonal and communication skills


Personal suitability NOTE: This position requires lifting and carrying demands that require the ability to bend at the waist stoop and twist frequently the ability to lift up to 50 lbs the ability to carry push and pull up to 50 lbs and the ability to stand walk and sit frequently.
