Make a difference as a Adult Employment Counselor ACT

As a Full Time Adult Employment Counselor ACT at the HamptonNewport News Community Services Board you will play a pivotal role in transforming the vocational prospects of clients. In this dynamic position you will assess client vocational skills and develop tailored placement opportunities ensuring individuals receive the training and counseling necessary for meaningful employment. Your responsibilities will include managing a diverse caseload providing supportive counseling and supervising onthejob training for psychiatrically disabled persons. You will leverage your strong knowledge of rehabilitative and habilitative vocational training principles to implement effective vocational development treatment plans in collaboration with fellow treatment staff. Additionally you will advocate for clients needs acting as a vital liaison between them caregivers and service providers while assisting the Vocational Coordinator with various placement opportunities including volunteer TEP SE and competitive job placements within the community.

Your expertise in social casework management will be essential in facilitating positive outcomes and fostering client success.

To excel as a Full Time Adult Employment Counselor ACT at the HamptonNewport News Community Services Board candidates should possess a bachelors degree in human services ideally in Social Work Psychology or Counseling. A minimum of one year of case management and vocational training experience with adults facing mental health and cooccurring disorders is essential. Must be registered with the Board of Counseling to practice as a QMHPA or register as a QMHPA trainee within 30 days of employment. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills enabling effective supportive counseling and communication with clients and stakeholders. Proficiency in relevant software and tools to manage case documentation and vocational development plans is crucial alongside a valid state Drivers License to facilitate travel for client assessments and workplace visits.

Empathy adaptability and a commitment to advocating for clients needs will be vital for thriving in this fulfilling role.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
