Job Description

Red Ember Recruitment is in the search for a dynamic and experienced Country General Manager to lead its operations in Mozambique. This critical leadership role will take full responsibility for the general management in Mozambique reporting directly to the Director of Operations Africa.

The successful incumbent will oversee the country s business operations including farming finance and stakeholder engagement ensuring alignment with regional strategy and business objectives. Working in close collaboration with the People & Culture and Finance teams and coordinating with packhouse and distribution operations the Country General Manager will be accountable for the full profit and loss performance of the business.

Financial and Business Management
  • Collaborate and participate in the budgeting process (OPEX and CAPEX) in line with business timelines.
  • Monitor the budget allocate resources review performance and make midyear adjustments or special requests as necessary.
  • Prepare monthly and/or project finance reports for management to provide insights into the companys financial health.
  • Ensure business profitability by managing people and resources to establish and accomplish business objectives.

Farming Operations Management

  • Manage the farms through the Operational Team to produce highquality fruit in line with benchmark farming practices.
  • Manage both owned and grower harvesting systems in alignment with demand and customer programs.
  • Develop and implement a 5year plan for the growth and expansion of supply from Mozambique.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance the company s image and reputation.
  • Benchmark the business in terms of costs technology and people trends.

People Management

  • Instil discipline within the management and labour force.
  • Set performance agreements manage subordinates and provide coaching and mentorship.
  • Develop successors for critical positions.
  • Foster a healthy labour relations environment through continuous employee engagement.

Health & Safety

  • Manage and implement the Health and Safety Management System (HSMS).
  • Drive hazard identification and develop risk assessments for all operations.
  • Support the achievement and maintenance of ISO 45001 accreditation within the engineering department.

Special Projects

  • Oversee export management including the development and execution of a fruit export system from Mozambique to customers.
  • Investigate and develop new markets to support fruit volume growth.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and establish a business case for the expansion of packhouse structures in Mozambique and the region.
  • Undertake studies and develop a business case for establishing avocado oil production in Mozambique.
  • Serve as the accounting officer and company representative in Mozambique fostering relationships with authorities and the broader business community.
  • Explore new development opportunities in Mozambique to support future growth and entry into new markets.

Corporate Governance Risk and Compliance

  • Ensure that statutory obligations under engineering management are met and maintained including but not limited to dam safety building registration environmental impact assessments (EIA) water rights roads transport and electricity supply and usage.
  • Enforce ethical business practices and provide oversight to ensure compliance with corporate governance standards and responsible behaviour.
  • Promote and uphold an inclusive workplace culture.


Requirements


  • Tertiary Qualifications in Business Sciences or similar.
  • Post graduate degree will be an advantage.
  • At least 10 to 15 years experience in a generalist business operations production and commercial.
  • Experience within the agriculture sector will be an advantage.
  • Experience working in underdeveloped African countries will be an advantage.
  • Proven track record in managing a scaled business at a generalist.
  • Stakeholder management.
  • Experience in reporting to Exco and the board.
  • Technically competent to plan lead and control all aspects of the business including finance people commercial and operations.
  • Knowledge of the management of the export of subtropical fruits.
  • Good people management skills across all levels of the business with a strong sense of compliance and building a culture of performance and respect.
  • Good knowledge of external accreditation requirements for local and export markets and social audits (SMETA GlobalGAP SIZA etc).
  • Financial Management and control.
  • Knowledge of the legal framework for farming operations across Africa.
  • Strong computer literacy and systems.
  • Person of integrity passion for work excellence and success

  • Willing to travel within and outside the country.
