POSITION:Alternative School Lead Teacher

Seeking a flexible committed educator that likes a lot of autonomy and creativity. Successful candidates will have experience working with students in crisis and will have a deep well of patience.

ENDORSEMENTS/CERTIFICATIONS NEEDED

A valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with high school core endorsement(s).

Candidates need to feel confident teaching out of endorsement and combining subjects for mastery based learning.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively as a team member with administration staff parents and students
  • Ability to motivate and connect with high school students
  • Interest and ability to develop and adapt curriculum to students interests and learning styles
  • Ability to deliver effective instructional strategies that meet the varied needs of students
  • Ability to use a variety of assessment strategies
  • Ability to handle confidential matters appropriately and ethically
  • Ability to deescalate student behavior
  • Ability toremain calm and not personalize student behavior
  • Experience working with high school students preferred
  • Ability to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Organize teach and develop materials for a program that meets the program goals and objectives
  • Provide an effective instructional environment that engages students
  • Maintain appropriate and accurate records and assist in completing state reports
  • Teach career exploration and assist students in the development of a High School and Beyond Plan
  • Attend and participate in staffing department district and employer meetings as required
  • Participate and work cooperatively on school projects
  • Develop maintain and update course frameworks as needed
  • Teach approved curriculum
  • Participate in IEP planning sessions as appropriate
  • Provide for the supervision of students in the classroom and on the school premises as required
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities
  • Maintain and update all required professional certifications including First Aid/CPR
  • Participate in professional development activities
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules administrative regulations and board policies
  • Fulfill all other responsibilities as assigned

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit move about hear and speak and be visually observant of classroom behavior and learning activities.

The employee must regularly lift and carry items weighting up to 50 pounds or more and occasionally lift restrain or move up to 100 pounds most typically when required to intervene in student safety issues.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate or consistent with the subject being taught but can be abnormally loud on occasion.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions temperature fluctuations fumes or airborne particles toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.

The employee may be required to travel in school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
