    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. High school diploma orpassage of Kern High School District proficiency test
    2. Demonstrated knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading writing and mathematics or reading readiness writing readiness and mathematics readiness as appropriate.
    3. Desire to support students in educational environment
    4. Ability to work with adults and children and to respect confidential matters; ability to work collaboratively
    5. Bilingual ability may be required depending on assignment


    REPORTS TO:Administrator as assigned

    JOB GOAL: To support students with disabilities in accessing curriculum in academic areas
    individualized adaptive skills social emotional supports and/or behavioral needs
    in order to benefit from their educational placement

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Assigned to work with special education teachers/staff in educational setting
    2. Assists in development of desirable social skills and habits morals and mental and physical health for all pupils; assists special education teacher in implementing students Individual Educational Plan (IEP) goals and accommodations
    3. Under supervision of special education teacher/staff reinforces instruction introduced by students general and/or special education teacher(s)
    4. Assists with checking care preparation and arrangement of instructional materials and equipment
    5. Assists in implementing classroom management procedures and Individualized Behavior Intervention Plans
    6. Assists with yard duty first aid and physical education periods; assists in lifting moving and positioning students as necessary to render various forms of personal care including but not limited to feeding dressing grooming toileting diapering therapy and specialized health care procedures; assists students in use of wheelchairs braces or orthopedic equipment; may be required to use mechanical equipment
    7. Fosters and encourages independence of all students; works with small groups of children under direction of teacher or other certificated staff
    8. Monitors students to ensure safety and safety of others in all school environments including but not limited to classroom playground cafeteria bus and parent pick up and drop off areas any school related activities and locations.
    9. Maintains valid first aid and CPR certification
    10. Prepares and assists children during lunch and snack period; checks and maintains lavatories
    11. Maintains ProAct certification and assists with ProAct Crisis Intervention as needed
    12. Models personal and professional values of equity integrity caring collaboration and personal and collective accountability
    13. Performs other related duties as assigned


    SALARY: $18.36 - $29.93 per hour

    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Districts Improvement of Professional Services handbookBoard Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable


    NEW PROBATIONARY EMPLOYEES AND PERMANENT EMPLOYEES WHO BECOME PROBATIONARY UPON RECLASSIFICATION:

    A new employee or a permanent employee who is changed to a new classification shall serve a probationary period which shall not exceed six (6) months of duty time exclusive of leaves of absence or other absences. During this probationary period the employee must meet the required standards of performance to be recommended for permanent status in the classification. A probationary classified service employee may be terminated from the probationary classification at any time without cause without right of appeal or hearing before the Board of Education. Pursuant to Education Code section 45113 a permanent employee who accepts a promotion and fails to complete the probationary period for that promotional position shall be employed in the classification from which he or she was promoted.


    MINIMUM APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    1. High School Diploma or equivalent
    2. Verification of one (1)of the following:
      1. Two years (48 semester units) of study at an accredited college or university
      2. Associates or higher degree from an accredited college or university
      3. Passage of BCSD Paraprofessional Test
      4. CBEST

    Copies of required certificates transcripts or diplomas may be submitted with application. District may require that originals be presented for verification prior to employment. Please check with Human Resources regarding acceptable documents. For positions requiring college course work official transcripts will be required upon employment.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operators license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
