Position Overview: The Special EducationElementary School Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring the success of students with disabilities by overseeing scheduling instructional support and compliance with special education processes. This individual will collaborate with teachers provide coaching monitor student progress and support the referral and IEP processes.
Responsibilities: Scheduling & Instructional Support: Develop and coordinate schedules to ensure students receive their Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) minutes. Support teachers in implementing inclusive instructional practices aligned with district unit plans. Assist with curriculum adaptation and the use of appropriate instructional materials.
Collaboration & Coaching: Work closely with special education teachers providing instructional coaching and support. Facilitate collaboration among general education and special education staff to promote inclusive education. Offer guidance on progress monitoring data collection and effective intervention strategies.
IEP Process & Compliance: Review Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and provide constructive feedback. Attend IEP meetings as the districts Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) representative when needed. Support the referral process for special education services and ensure compliance with legal and district requirements.
Leadership & Organization: Guide teachers in tracking student progress and using data to drive instruction. Foster a collaborative team environment ensuring all stakeholders stay aligned with goals and best practices. Maintain organization and follow through on assigned tasks to support student and teacher success. Adapt to other duties as assigned to support the needs of students and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Washington state certification with special education endorsement. Minimum 3 years teaching special education at theelementary school level. Knowledge of developmentally appropriate curriculum and instructional practices are a must. Strong understanding of special education laws processes and instructional best practices. Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and organizational skills with a commitment to followthrough. Strong communication coaching and leadership abilities. Excellent interpersonal skills is a must. Requires prolonged sitting or standing. Attendance and punctuality are important functions of this job.
