Job Description

Summary: The Student Engagement Graduate Assistants overall mission is to enrich the cocurricular experience of students at Queens University of Charlotte. This role establishes and maintains an active highly visible and deeply engaged presence to sustain and grow strong collaborative relationships with students faculty and staff. Primary responsibilities include providing exceptional programming to the campus community. This parttime 20 hours a week Graduate Assistant position reports to the Assistant Dean for Student Engagement and begins on July 1 2025.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Programming

  • Learn and assist in strategic planning of campuswide programming in conjunction with the Assistant Dean of Student Engagement
  • Learn and host at least one program a semester in collaboration with campus partners
  • Learn and coordinate communication and marketing of Student Engagement programs
  • Learn and build and advise the Commuter Club
  • Learn and advise one Campus Union Board subcommittees
  • Learn and create ways to increase student engagement (through marketing etc)
  • Learn and attend and manage day of show operations for assigned events
  • Learn and advise a club as needed
  • Learn and create content for social media under advisement of Assistant Director of Student Engagement
  • Learn and commit to required office hours weekly Student Engagement meetings regular one on one meetings with supervisor and monthly division meetings.

Livein Potential

  • Graduate Assistants within Student Affairs are the first considered for the fouremergency response graduate support positions that are livein. These positions are selected separately by Residence Life. The Emergency Response Graduate Support Positions will be expected to be available during emergency situations on campus (inclement weather etc.) and participate in an oncall rotation to respond to afterhours emergencies. This is an additional responsibility above and beyond your graduate assistantship and thus is treated separately. Oncampus housing is provided for free in return for the duties as part of this separate role. Oncampus housing includes a onebedroom furnished apartment including water electricity internet and free onsite laundry. Livein Graduate Assistants also receive an increased campus dining plan and thus receive (10 meals/week and $450 Lions dollars per year). Oncampus housing is pet and partner friendly.

Nonessential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Other duties and special projects may be assigned to capitalize on learning opportunities
  • Assist students and other guests who visit the office
  • Learn about the purpose and workings of advisory committees by participating with faculty staff and students as needed

Experience Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Enrolled in a graduate program at Queens University of Charlotte
  • Experience that demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of the diverse academic
  • socioeconomic cultural and ethnic backgrounds of firstgeneration college students
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice equity and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience working as part of a student activities or residence hall or another student affairs functional area
  • Possess leadership skills and the ability to work effectively within teams
  • Possess effective communication skills to successfully approach people mediate problems situations and enforce policies
  • Easily approachable friendly and able to establish and maintain strong rapport with students
  • Ability to use discretion and exercise good judgment
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive student information
  • Effective community development and programming experience

Renumeration

  • Graduate Assistants are eligible for 2 tuitionfree graduate courses per academic semester including summer if actively serving in the graduate assistant role. IMPORTANT: No tuition remission is available for Cybersecurity Management courses.
  • Graduate Assistants for Student Affairs are provided with a campusdining plan during the academic year (5 meals/week) and free membership to the Levine Fitness Center.
  • Graduate Assistants are eligible for free oncampus parking.
  • Graduate Assistants enjoy flexible scheduling. Time away to be coordinated with immediate supervisor.
  • Graduate Assistants may be employed outside of Queens for part time work as agreed upon with their supervisor so long as it does not interfere with the core learnings of this position.
