Role Purpose:

The Family Support Clinician works with families loved ones and significant others (family members) of potential and existing residents of OVs three Therapeutic Communities (TCs). The position acts as a contact point for family members provides support information and referral. The purpose of the role is to ensure that families are supported throughout the Residential Rehab process before admission to Rehab during the early stages and through to the final stages of rehab as the resident returns to their community and home.

Duties include but are not limited to

  • Provide education to individuals and groups about the TC and the TC process and the family role in support.
  • Provide a point of contact for family members so that concerns queries complaints can be addressed.
  • Provide family support groups at key stages of the rehab process including preparation for admission and preparation for leaving
  • Refer families to relevant support services such as SHARC and Mental Health and Wellbeing Connects for ongoing support and services.
  • Utilise client engagement strategies that are flexible and include a collaborative approach within a broader AOD team with other services and with family members.
  • Provide services that are MARAM aligned and family violence informed.
  • Participate in single session family work with other clinicians as required
  • Engage with families and residents to discover family support needs and develop innovative responses to these which become part of the service offering.
  • Maintain uptodate progress notes case files and data entry in a confidential and professional manner.
  • Attending team meetings clinical supervision & training as scheduled.

Who are WE looking for


To be successful in this role you must hold the below qualifications/experience

  1. Relevant Health Social or Welfare related tertiary/degree qualification with experience and/or an Associate Diploma with substantial experience.
  2. Certificate IV in AOD or have completed the required competencies (or able to complete within the first 12 months of employment).* (Refer Appendix A)
  3. Skills and training in counselling family work group work case management.
  4. An understanding of the difficulties families of clients with cooccurring mental health and alcohol and other drug disorders are facing.
  5. Skills in the management and treatment of persons with cooccurring mental health and alcohol and other drug disorders
  6. Ability to liaise and communicate productively with a wide variety of people from all levels across the family mental health alcohol and other drug and allied health and welfare sectors.
  7. Proven skills in record keeping report writing maintaining client files.
  8. Sound computer literacy.
  9. Proven ability to coordinate tasks.

OV requires staff in clinical positions to have the following competencies (or their equivalent). Where people do not already have these competencies OV will invest in the staffs professional development by providing them through our registered training organisation (RTO).
