Position Summary:
The Inclusion Specialist will serve as a district resource in the development implementation and evaluation of inclusive educational practices. This role involves collaborating with administrators teachers support staff students and families to build capacity and ensure students with diverse learning needs including those with disabilities are successfully integrated and supported within general education settings to the greatest extent appropriate. The Specialist will provide coaching professional development and direct support to foster and promote equitable outcomes for all learners.
Key Responsibilities:
Promote Inclusive Culture: Champion the districts vision for inclusion fostering a culture of shared responsibility among all stakeholders.
Instructional Coaching & Support:
- Collaborate with general and special education teachers to coplan coteach and implement differentiated instruction Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and evidencebased inclusive strategies.
- Provide jobembedded coaching modeling and feedback to educators on effective inclusion techniques.
- Assist teams in developing and implementing appropriate accommodations modifications and assistive technology supports.
Professional Development:
- Design and deliver highquality professional development sessions for administrators teachers and support staff on topics related to inclusive education disability awareness UDL coteaching positive behavior supports and differentiation.
Collaboration & Consultation:
- Work collaboratively with schoolbased teams (including administrators counselors psychologists therapists) to problemsolve studentspecific challenges and develop effective support plans.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between general education special education and support staff.
- Consult with families to support their understanding of and involvement in inclusive practices.
Program Development & Implementation:
- Assist in the development and refinement of district policies procedures and guidelines related to inclusive education.
- Support schools in implementing MultiTiered Systems of Support (MTSS) with a focus on inclusive Tier 1 instruction and effective interventions.
- Research and share best practices in inclusive education.
Data Analysis & Evaluation:
- Collect and analyze data related to student progress program effectiveness and the implementation of inclusive practices to inform decisionmaking and continuous improvement.
- Assist schools in using data to identify needs and adjust instructional strategies.
Student Support:
- Observe students in various settings to assess needs and recommend appropriate supports.
- Participate in IEP/504 meetings as needed providing expertise on inclusive placements and services.
- Assist in the development of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) that utilize positive behavior supports within inclusive settings.
Qualifications:
- Education: Masters degree in Education Inclusive Education Curriculum & Instruction Educational Leadership or a related field.
- Certification: Valid state teaching license; Special Education endorsement/certification
Experience:
- Minimum of e.g. 35 years of successful teaching experience including significant experience working with students with diverse learning needs in inclusive settings.
- Demonstrated experience in coaching mentoring or providing professional development to adults.
- Experience with curriculum development UDL differentiated instruction and coteaching models.
- Knowledge of special education law (IDEA) and best practices.
Skills:
- Deep understanding of and commitment to inclusive education philosophy and practices.
- Excellent collaboration communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and problemsolving abilities.
- Ability to analyze data and use it to inform practice.
- Proficiency with educational technology and assistive technology.
- Ability to build rapport and work effectively with diverse groups of students staff and families
