Job Description

TITLE: Lead Custodian

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High School diploma or valid G.E.D.

2. Possess valid Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint card.

3. Able to show experience as a school custodian or the equivalent in a custodial position at another institution or firm.

4. Commercial experience

5. Able to demonstrate knowledge and expertise in the basic techniques of maintenance electrical plumbing HVAC repair and grounds maintenance.

6. Ability to supervise personnel. Alternative to the above qualifications as the Governing Board finds appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO:

Site Principal/Director of Maintenance & Operations

WORKS CLOSELY WITH:

Site Principal/Director of Maintenance & Operations/Night Custodians

SUPERVISES:

Custodial staff of the school building and Night Custodians

JOB GOAL:

Maintain the district offices school sites and grounds in a condition of operating excellence so that full use of them may be made at all times. To prepare the school facilities for operation in the fall.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Evaluate the performance of the custodial staff on a regular basis.

2. Promote the safety health and comfort of the students and employees.

3. Keep buildings and premises including sidewalks driveways and play areas neat clean and safe at all times.

4. Regulate heat ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel water and electricity.

5. Raise the United States and Arizona flags at or before 8:00 a.m. on each school day and lowers it at or after 3:30 p.m.

6. Maintain mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing.

7. Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance upkeep and repair; create workorder for maintenance.

8. Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each day and for determining before leaving that all doors and windows are secured and all lights except those left on for safety reasons are turned off.

9. Supervise and participate in all necessary painting and minor repairs to plumbing electrical carpentry and general mechanical areas.

10. Supervise and participate in the general cleaning and maintenance of the school buildings.

11. Request and receive supplies and equipment and maintain necessary inventories.

12. Assist Principal and Director of Maintenance & Operations in determining capital outlay needs for the custodial department.

13. Assume responsibility for the general security of the buildings and grounds; including checking that all exterior gates are locked.

14. Assume responsibility for the general fire safety of the building.

15. Remain on the school premises when needed at the request of the Principal or the Director of Maintenance during school hours and during nonschool hours when the use of the building has been authorized.

16. Check daily to ensure that all exit doors and all panic bars are working properly during the hours of building occupancy. 17. Check bathrooms daily to ensure that all equipment is working and there are adequate supplies on hand.

18. Report to any site within the district to repair and install equipment as needed within certified field at the direction of the Director of Maintenance.

19. Assist in general remodeling and renovation work.

20. Make minor building repairs within capabilities.

21. Create workorders of any major damage or repairs needed and report promptly to the Director of Maintenance.

22. Participate in general cleaning and maintenance of the district offices and school sites including but not limited to sweeping offices and classrooms dusting furniture cleaning whiteboards and removing marks on furniture and walls on a daily basis.

23. Move furniture/equipment within buildings as required for various activities as directed.

24. Cleans corridors after hours each day.

25. Keep all floors in clean and attractive condition.

26. Scrubs hose down and disinfect toilet floors daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.

27. Wash all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently if necessary. Glass doors and panels cleaned on a daily basis.

28. Check and replaces any HVAC filters from inside the buildings if required; this excludes roof top filters.

29. Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash rubbish and waste.

30. Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective function of the District.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 260 days/2080 hours per year. Hourly rate and workdays established by the Board.

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on Evaluation of Staff.
