I. Job Summary
The Process Technician maintains and repairs the blow mold and/or injection mold machines during production. The Process Technician troubleshoots machinery hot stamp machines and repairs/replaces mold parts during production. The Process Technician also assists the Supervisor in achieving production quality housekeeping and safety goals.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Produce quality plastic wheels lids and small components for trash cans
- Make necessary adjustments to injection molding equipment to keep it within allowable specification
- Set up injection/blow molding tool and molds sample/production molds setup machine operating parameters to process parts to specifications and connect all water as needed (chilled and tower water)
- Startup and troubleshoot problems at the press inspect sample parts for accuracy remove molds from the press stage for disassembly work with production teams to meet demand and continuous process improvement.
- Connect hydraulics for mold knock out pins (repair/replace) as necessary
- Connect pneumatic lines to molds (repair/replace) as necessary
- Connect mold heaters and mold thermocouple cables
- Make resin color changes on machines as necessary
- Assist the Shift Supervisorin training and directing of Packer/Inspectors to achieve quality production.
- Enter end of shift production/downtime and quality information as required
- Monitor IQMS system
- Report any unsafe or out of specification equipment in a timely manner
- In conjunction with Maintenance diagnose inspect troubleshoot and investigate any issues with machinery during production. (i.e. production of out of specification parts)
- Responsible for the reduction of waste/scrap rates in mold change process
- Notify appropriate associates of scrap issues in a timely manner
- Evaluate mold change schedule to meet production requirements and communicate/coordinate plant resources involved in job change and scheduling processes
- Conduct preventative maintenance while tools are in machines
- Adjust machine parameters as needed for order specifications with minimal flash while ensuring safety rules are followed.
- When not actually working with machinery the Process Technician has the same responsibilities as Material Handlers (see Material Handler job description)
- Relieve Material Handlers during breaks.
III. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
- Forklift certification is required and can be obtained onsite.
- 35 years Injection and/or blow molding experience
- 13 years robotics experience
- Experience in working with robotics conveyors sprue pickers
- Experience with McGuire blenders
- Experience in processing of HDPE
- Other Knowledge Skills or Abilities Required
- Knowledge of blow molding and/or injection molding.
- Knowledge of mold change setup
- Ability to perform duties independently with little supervision.
- Knowledge of valve gate Injection molding
- Knowledge of hot stamping setup
- Knowledge of mold labeling.
- Knowledge of robotics
- Understanding of pneumatics hydraulics basic electrical concepts
- Must be able to work with basic hand tools and able to use a multimeter to check fuse
- Able to process optimal conditions to achieve optimum cycles
- Operate forklift to move and store molds and other equipment
