FullTime NonTenure Track Faculty Position


The Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMCH) Graduate program at the University of St. Thomas in Houston Texas announces one fulltime nontenure track (10month) faculty position. Start date for the position January 6 2025. We are seeking an individual who shares our vision for training highly competent and effective professional counselors who uphold the highest standards of the profession and sensitively engage the dialogue between faith and reason.


The CMHC program prepares students to serve the community as licensed professional counselors (LPCs). Graduates of the Master of Science (M.S.) in CMHC meet the educational requirements of the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors (TSBEPC) for eligibility for LPC licensure. The M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is accredited by CACREP.


The M.S. in CMHC program upholds the core values of the university and professional counseling with a particular emphasis on the promotion of the highest standards of ethical legal and professional conduct; evidencebased clinical practice; social and cultural diversity; social justice and the dignity of all persons; and the ongoing dialogue between faith and reason. The program is poised for leadership in social justice advocacy in Houston Americas most culturally diverse urban center. Further the department fosters the growth of students faculty and staff and faculty members receive supportive mentoring from senior faculty.

The position responsibilities include:

  • Teaching 7 graduatelevel courses per year (usually 34 per semester)
  • Developing and carrying out a productive research agenda in clinical supervision or education issues in the professional counseling field
  • Serving on departmental school and university committees
  • Academic advising and mentoring of graduate students
  • Participation and leadership in the profession

Applicants must:

  • Possess an earned doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision or a closely related field preferably from a CACREPaccredited doctoral program
  • Be licensed or licenseeligible as a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Texas
  • Possess advanced clinical supervision and teaching skills
  • Demonstrate the potential for an active and productive program of research
  • Demonstrate emerging professional leadership skills in professional counseling and/or counselor education
  • Demonstrate support for a diverse array of worldviews and faith traditions
  • Demonstrate commitment to the mission of the University as expressed in USTs Mission Statement and the Catholic doctrine Ex corde ecclesiae.
