Position: Counsellor Stepped Care Mental Health Program
Location: West Heidelberg Greensborough Epping and WFH
Position Type: Fixed Term Part Time
Grade: SACS level 4 or Psychologist Grade 2

Your New Role:
Our Stepped Care Counsellor works within our LIFT and Head to Health Stepped Care Mental Health programs with clients across the lifespan towards their goals in a client centered recovery focused flexible and holistic manner. The Stepped Care team includes mental health nurses counsellors care coordinators and peer support workers. Treatment is provided both one on one and in group format. As well as working with scheduled clients clinicians offer flexibility to respond to clients with urgent needs working closely with other health professionals and care team members both internal and external. Counsellors will be responsible for assessing clients and delivering focused psychological strategies and therapies using evidence-based therapeutic modalities (e.g. CBT ACT motivational interviewing DBT) appropriate referral working within a defined scope of practice and the program service delivery model. The role sits in a multidisciplinary team comprised of counsellors mental health nurses non-clinical care coordinators and peer support workers within a broader community health counselling team. Services may be delivered at Banyule Community Health service locations the clients home and/or other community settings.
You Will Be Responsible For:
You will be responsible for delivering evidence-based person-centred counselling to individuals groups and families across a range of mental health needs. This includes conducting intake assessments and risk assessments developing tailored treatment plans and providing therapeutic interventions. You will manage a caseload and work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to offer integrated wrap-around care. Accurate and timely documentation along with maintaining high standards of record-keeping will be essential to the role.
What Youll Need to Succeed:
To succeed in this role you will need relevant tertiary qualifications in Psychology Social Work Occupational Therapy or Counselling along with eligibility for registration with the appropriate professional body (e.g. AHPRA AASW PACFA). You will bring significant experience in delivering mental health counselling across diverse populations and demonstrate strong skills in clinical assessment therapeutic interventions (e.g. CBT ACT DBT) and managing complex presentations such as trauma addiction and dual diagnosis. The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team build strong therapeutic alliances and maintain high standards of ethical and professional practice is essential. Strong interpersonal and communication skills cultural responsiveness and a commitment to continuous quality improvement will also be key to your success.
