CLASSIFICATION:Personnel System: Serves a six month probationary period.
PAY GRADE:132 Deputy Chief Attorney 129 Senior Attorney 127 Associate Attorney II or 125 Associate Attorney I; depending on qualifications (DOQ) see salary ranges below.

Purpose of Job
The purpose of this job is to assist the AthensClarke County Attorney in providing advisory transactional and litigation related legal services to the Unified Government. Duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to preparing and presenting cases for trial; preparing briefs motions contracts deeds resolutions and ordinances; providing legal counsel to various departments and boards; assisting clients with responses to Open Records Act requests; drafting ordinances and resolutions; and performing additional tasks as assigned.

Job Related Requirements
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday Friday 8:00 am 5:00 pm with occasional evenings.
May be required to work on religious holidays.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Must work cooperatively with others.
When requirements include vehicle operation responsible for the safety readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACCs safe driving policy.

Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Deputy Chief Attorney $106934 $127384 DOQ
Juris doctorate with at least eight years of experience as a practicing Attorney and experience in at least four practice areas* or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job is required.

Two years of supervisory oversight or management experience is required.

Must possess a valid drivers license.

Must be a member of the Georgia State Bar and obtain a minimum of 12 hours of accredited continuing education annually.

Senior Attorney $92374 $110039 DOQ
Juris Doctorate with at least six years of experience as a practicing attorney in three practice areas* required; or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job.

Must be a member of the Georgia State Bar and obtain a minimum of 12 hours of accredited continuing education annually.

Must possess a valid drivers license.

Supervisory experience is preferred.

Associate Attorney II $83785 $99808 DOQ
Juris Doctorate with at least four years of experience as a practicing attorney in three practice areas* required; or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job.

Essential Duties Responsibilities

Deputy Chief Attorney
Under the direction of the County Attorney may oversee associate attorneys in the performance of their duties direct work assignments handle employee concerns and issues assist in an advisory and collaborative capacity in the hiring of new personnel and may complete employee performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.

Prepares cases for trial participates in motion practice prepares briefs and memoranda tries cases and makes oral arguments in various courts and administrative tribunals on behalf of the Unified Government.

Negotiates settlements and consent orders.

Drafts and reviews resolutions and ordinances for the Unified Government.

Provides primary legal supervision and support to the Unified Governments departments or offices; duties include rendering oral opinions providing legal advice on government policies andprocedures preparing and reviewing deeds and contracts conducting title searches researching case lawand conducting other legal services asrequested.

Prepares documentation to assist in the orderly administration of cases involving ordinances of the Unified Government.

Prepares legal advertisements and reviews requests for proposals or invitations to bid as required by local state and federal laws and ordinances.

Conducts legal research by reviewing case law legal opinions codes and statutes. Reads legal journals and case law to maintain knowledge of the legal profession.

Performs other related duties as required.

Senior Attorney
Prepares cases for trial participates in motion practice prepares briefs and memoranda tries cases and makes oral arguments in various courts and administrative tribunals on behalf of the Unified Government.

Negotiates settlements and consent orders in cases.

Reviews ordinances for the Unified Government.

Provides legal counsel to the Unified Governments departments; duties include rendering oral opinions providing legal advice on government policies and procedures preparing and reviewing deeds and contracts conducting title searches researching case law and conducting other legal services as requested.

Prepares legal advertisements and invitations to bid as required by local state and federal laws and ordinances.

Conducts legal research by reviewing case law legal opinions codes and statutes.

Reads legal journals and case law to maintain knowledge of the legal profession.

Performs other related duties as required.

Associate Attorney II

Prepares cases for trial participates in motion practice prepares briefs and memoranda tries cases and makes oral arguments in various courts and administrative tribunals on behalf of the Unified Government.

Negotiates settlements and consent orders in Municipal Court cases.

Provides legal counsel to the Unified Governments departments; duties include rendering oral opinions providing legal advice on government policies and procedures conducting title searches researching case law and conducting other legal services as requested.

Prepares documentation to assist in the orderly administration of cases involving ordinances of the Unified Government. Conducts legal research by reviewing case lawlegal opinions codesand statutes.

Reads legal journals and case law to maintain knowledge of the legal profession.

Performs other related duties as required.

Associate Attorney I

Knowledge of the principles practices and procedures of the Unified Government and the operations and functions of the Office of the Attorney.
