The Department of Transportation is actively looking to hire a Mechanical Supervisor to oversee a team of licensed and skilled automotive and diesel mechanics. Plans organizes and oversees the direct supervision of mechanics engaged in troubleshooting and repairing a diverse range of construction equipment and hand tools powered by gasoline or diesel engines. This includes systems related to hydraulics electrical components heating and cooling mechanisms as well as both manual and automatic transmissions exhaust systems and drive trains. The supervisor is responsible for ensuring that state vehicle inspections are performed accurately and that quality assurance standards are met for the assigned equipment. Work assignments are delegated to mechanics and the supervisor meticulously reviews equipment work orders verifying the accuracy of parts and time charges. Additionally any incidents of equipment accidents or damage are reported immediately to maintain safety and accountability.
In the role of supervisor the individual directs and supports mechanics in diagnosing complex equipment issues by utilizing diagnostic testing tools and procedures to accurately identify the necessary repairs. They guide the implementation of specialized or unconventional repair techniques and ensure that the required tools equipment or parts are readily available. The supervisor also oversees the repair of various motorized hand tools including chain saws compressors jackhammers tampers hand mowers trimmers routers patching machines and heating kettles. Furthermore they play a crucial role in identifying training needs for the team and securing appropriate technical assistance while promptly reporting any missing or damaged equipment.
To maintain a safe and efficient work environment the supervisor ensures that garage repair facilities are kept clean and organized enforcing the use of proper safety protocols and protective gear. They foster an awareness of workplace conditions among staff and proactively implement measures to prevent accidents and injuries. In the event of personal injuries the supervisor ensures that they are reported immediately and that appropriate treatment is administered to mitigate the risk of further harm.
The supervisor is also responsible for planning assigning prioritizing and evaluating the work of subordinates. This includes conducting interviews and selecting employees assessing their performance approving or denying leave requests initiating disciplinary actions when necessary and identifying training needs. They provide coaching and counseling to employees and are adept at resolving any issues that may arise within the team.
In addition to overseeing mechanics the supervisor manages Tradesman Helpers Welders SemiSkilled Laborers and other personnel assigned to the maintenance shop ensuring that all operations run smoothly and efficiently.
