Job Description

The Town of New Tecumseth is looking for two Assistant District Chiefs to join our New Tecumseth Fire Rescue team at Station 1 in Alliston and Station 2 in Beeton.

The Assistant District Chief assists the District Chief with the overall safety and supervision of the fire station. This role includes performing response and administrative tasks such as maintaining records completing documentation and reports. Additionally the Assistant District Chief serves as the Training Coordinator for the station ensuring the seamless execution of all trainingrelated activities in conjunction with the District Chief (Operations) and Division Chief of Operations and Training.

How you contribute to our organization:

  • Coordinate Training Sessions: Organizes and oversees training sessions ensuring strict adherence to schedules and defined roles to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Training Liaison: Acts as the primary liaison between instructors officers firefighters with the District Chief and Division Chief of Operations and Training facilitating clear communication and collaboration across all levels.
  • Collaborate in TeamTeach Sessions: Engages in teamteach sessions providing support to instructors and fostering a collaborative learning environment.
  • Track Progress and Flag Issues: Monitors the progress of training programs identifying and addressing any issues promptly to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to Classroom Blended and Practical Drill Scenarios: Plays an active role in developing and delivering classroom blended and practical drill scenarios enhancing the overall training experience.
  • Develop Training Materials: Assists in the creation and updating of training materials to ensure they meet current standards and best practices.
  • Evaluate Training Effectiveness: Conducts assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and implements improvements based on feedback and performance metrics.
  • Respond to Emergency Incidents: Evaluates and commands phases of emergency incidents utilizing incident and effective command principles to manage personnel and resources effectively.
  • Manage Station Operations: Assists with directing station personnel using corporate and departmental policies to maintain high performance and morale levels ensuring operational readiness.
  • Conduct Performance Reviews: Assists with performance reviews for station Captains and assists with approving performance reviews conducted by Captains for firefighters.
  • Evaluate Equipment and Premises: Ensures fire service equipment apparatus and premises are in optimal condition compliant with relevant legislation and documentation.
  • Support Incident Investigations: Assists with any required personnel equipment and information to support fire and emergency incident investigations.
  • Promote Public Relations and Education: Assists with enhancing public awareness of fire department roles and responsibilities through departmental public relations and education initiatives.


What you bring to the team:

  • NFPA 1021 Fire Officer II or grandfathered equivalent
  • NFPA 1041 I Fire Instructor
  • NFPA 1521 Incident Safety Officer
  • NFPA 1001 II Firefighter or grandfathered equivalent
  • NFPA 1041 II Fire Instructor is preferred
  • Recommended 7 years of experience in the fire service
  • At least 1 year of experience in a leadership role preferred
  • Proficient in the use of computer hardware and software: Utilizes tools such as Microsoft Office Firehouse and FLMS effectively to support departmental operations.
  • Proficient in the use of selfcontained breathing apparatus and personal protective equipment: Ensures safety and compliance during emergency responses.
  • Certification in First Aid CPR and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED): Maintains readiness to provide immediate medical assistance.
  • Valid Ontario Class DZ drivers license: Demonstrates responsible and safe driving behavior with a clean driving record (no more than 6 demerit points and/or no license suspension).



Pay Rate: Training and Operational Duty: $29.75
Emergency Response: $30.06 $35.79
Hours: PaidOnCall
Location: Station 1 in Alliston or Station 2 in Beeton
Start Date: June 1 2025
