SUMMARY:
The School of Music at East Texas A&M is seeking applicants for an immediate opening for Interim Director of Bands for a one year appointment. The School of Music at East Texas A&M serves approximately 300 music majors in the instrumental vocal and keyboard divisions. The University is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music to offer baccalaureate and masters degrees in music education and performance and a Bachelor of Arts in Music. The School of Music offers graduate assistantships and undergraduate scholarships for vocal instrumental and keyboard students. The School of Music resides in a $30 million music building completed in 2010 containing stateoftheart recital and concert halls studios rehearsal halls and teaching areas.
The band program includes three concert bands two jazz ensembles and Marching and Basketball Bands. The Wind Ensemble has performed at both regional and national College Band Directors National Association Conferences as well as the Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention most recently in 2018. The Wind Ensemble is also actively involved in commissioning and premiering new works from the nations leading composers. The Marching Band performs at all home games as well as exhibitions at marching contests such as the Texas State UIL Marching Band Contest and Bands of America Regionals and Grand Nationals Marching Festival.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct the Wind Ensemble (top ensemble)
- Teach Graduate (GTAs) and Undergraduate Conducting
- Teach Graduate Coursework in Instrumental Repertoire and Pedagogy
- Teach Additional Courses based upon the candidates area of expertise
- Organize direct and administer a comprehensive university band program including Wind Ensemble Marching Concert Jazz and Pep bands
- Provide overall leadership of the band staff and instrumental faculty as well as program development
- Recruit for the band and university at the regional and state level
- Promote the band and university at regional state and national events
- Participate in creative and/or research activities consistent with all faculty appointments
Participate in service activities consistent with all faculty appointments
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Masters degree in music education or conducting
- Experience / Knowledge / Skills: One to Three (1 3) years of experience as either a Director or Assistant Director of Bands is required
- Ability to: Multitask and work well as part of a team

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
- Doctoral Degree in Music Education or Conducting
- At least three (3) years of experience at a university or ten (10) years of experience in secondary education
