You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa is seeking an Associate Research Scientist to join an amazing team in pursuit of the advancement and scientific efforts in the field of Huntingtons Disease. The Associate Research Scientist will provide scientific and technical leadership in the management design and execution of a neuroimaging research program assuming full responsibility for the complete program of a large multisite study of Huntingtons Disease (HD).
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Identify and define ways to investigate brain changes in Huntingtons Disease through imaging studies including developing methodology to analyze large numbers of scans very accurately within limited timelines.
Develop hypotheses to be tested and novel methods in neuroimaging to evaluate specific changes in brain morphology or functional activation. This may include creation of new protocols software and statistical tools.
Evaluate brain function measures such as cognitive tasks behavior ratings and motor skill are related to gene expansion and also how they are related to brain structure.
Investigate and implement means to ensure validity of data collected at numerous sites across extended periods of time developing new protocols and image analysis methods where necessary to address these issues.
Perform experiments and collect and analyze data.
Evaluate data to establish relevance to the disease progress in HD.
Prepare research results for first author publication in reports papers journals books and other media.
Maintain an established record of participation in successfully funded research grants or contract proposals. Acquire and maintain successful research proposal with independent funding.
Maintain and comply with all University state and federal regulations when required.
Coordinate seminars discussions and lectures for dissemination of knowledge and results of research.
Develop new proposals for HD research and obtain support for new and/or continuing research activities.
Maintain liaison with sponsoring agencies and organizations as well as with other research and educational institutions.
Within a large multisite study manage numerous imaging projects supporting the HD studies including staff selection training overseeing image analysis monitoring of project funds management and coordination of data generation analysis and identification and the acquisition and use of equipment and facilities.
Participate in determining research priorities and planning programs of research.
Serve as an expert consultant on brain anatomy and image analysis for researchers in the HD studies.
Represent University of Iowa HD research through presentations at professional meetings at the national level.
Train local staff and external collaborators in all aspects of image acquisition and analysis.
Maintain effective working relationships with faculty staff students and the public both locally and at all collaborating institutions.
Establishes and maintains standards of collaborative interaction among peers and employees that is characterized by respect honesty and service; assures that all unit members are held to similar standards and ethics; constructively manages conflict.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Doctoral degree or equivalent professional degree (such as MD MBBS).
5 years related experience.
Previous experience in brain imaging
Experience or familiarity with all current methods of structural and functional imaging software/methods.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Experience managing numerous projects simultaneously developing and enforcing strict QA requirements while processing high volumes of data.
Demonstrated ability to foster a welcoming and respectful workplace environment while recognizing personal differences.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Record of obtaining independent funding
Experience interacting with a team of postdoctoral scholars graduate students research assistants undergraduate students healthcare providers and external collaborators.
