Position Summary:
The Director of Nursing is directly accountable for all patient care activities within the facility on a 24-hour basis. They are responsible for providing direction supervision and evaluation of patient care. This includes organizing and implementing management systems policies procedures and programs while coordinating with facility administration physicians families and other service personnel. The Director ensures nursing service compliance with federal state and local regulations.
Reports to: Extended Care Unit Administrator
Responsibilities of the Position:
Assess resident conditions and nursing care needs; plan care and define nursing interventions to meet the physical psychological and rehabilitative needs of residents.
Develop individualized nursing care plans and revise them as needed.
Evaluate resident care outcomes.
Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
Coordinate resident care admissions transfers and discharges.
Define and communicate the departments mission and corporate vision to staff.
Oversee department operations under the guidance of the facility Administrator.
Direct and guide personnel in the performance of their duties.
Communicate with staff management physicians vendors and consultants regarding departmental and corporate activities.
Oversee the procurement setup use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
Ensure skill competencies and responsibility for ongoing professional development and education.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelors degree in Nursing required.
RN License (North Carolina or Compact State) required.
Certifications/Licenses:
Basic Life Support (BLS) required through American Heart Association upon hire.
Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
Skills & Experience:
Critical thinking decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Two to three years of professional nursing experience with at least one year in a supervisory role.
Knowledge of State and Federal regulations in Nursing Homes preferred.
Ability to effectively understand communicate and respond to the unique needs of long-term care patients and families.
