Bachelors degree from an accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate for EC6
Knowledge of best practices for teaching gifted students
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
30 hours of GT Core professional development completed by start date
The mission of this role:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Manage GT identification process on assigned campuses.
What success looks like for this role:
Lesson Planning and Instruction
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of districts curriculum for gifted and talented students.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies and activities to meet the diverse needs of GT students.
- Ensure that instructional materials andresources are suitable for advanced learners enhancing their academic growth and engagement. Organize and direct students with digital portfolios to present at a campus GT Expo event
- Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social andemotional development of GT students.
Collaboration and Communication
- Cooperate with other members of campuses and district staff to ensure alignment of curriculum and instructional practices for gifted students.
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents students principals and teachers.
- Conduct regular conferences with parents to discuss student progress concerns and academic goals.
- Participate in formal concern conferences as necessary to address screening issues.
- Participate in Campus Placement Committee meetings to address screening and identification and as determined by student need.
Assessment Screening and Data Management
- Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documentsrequired.
- Promote and advertise the GT screening windows to ensure awareness and participation from the school community.
- Organize and maintain GT documentation digitally including collecting and entering data from multiple sources including but not limited to: Google Spreadsheets eSchool Softdocs and GT app.
- Gather and document classroom observations to provide evidence for GT screening from classroom teachers.
- Accurately collect and analyze screening results and report findings to the necessary stakeholder throughout the year.
- Adhere to all screening deadlines ensuring accurate data is collected and submitted.
Gifted and Talented Program Support
- Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits.
- Assist in selection of books equipment and other instructional materials.
- Be flexible and willing to work across multiple campuses as needed to facilitate GT screenings and support students in various locations as assigned annually.
Professional Responsibilities
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activitiesapproved by the campus principal.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials andfacilities.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues students parents and community members.
- Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Comply with district and state professional development requirements.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional ethical and responsible.
- Keep informed of and comply with state district and school regulations and policies forclassroom teachers.
- Serve as an advocate for gifted children.
