We have several different specialists including Critical Care Surgery Internal Medicine and Avian and Exotics. Collaboratively we strive to provide the highest level of care education and understanding to our clients their pets and our referring veterinarians.
What We Are Looking For
Pet Emergency & Specialty Center is looking for an experienced lead veterinary assistant to join our Avian & Exotics team.
The Exotics Lead Assistant is responsible for ensuring outstanding care for all of our patients overseeing that all the protocols are implemented as defined ensuring hospital and Exotics Service efficiency and managing the resources and staff to offer a service beyond the clients expectations.
Role Responsibilities:
- Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care advocate for pets and educate clients.
- Ensure that all the Exotics Technicians read and understand the information provided in
PESC emails mailbox and communication boards. - Be able to preform all the responsibilities listed for an exotics assistant
- Encourage a team atmosphere on shifts by treating other staff members with respect
recognizing achievement and encouraging growth. - Evaluate coordinate and supervise the workflow and activities of the
Technicians and Assistants - Notify the Service Manager of all staffing requirements or issues (absenteeism
performance issues etc.). Ensure the presence of all staff needed for every shift.
Identify other services needs before sending staff home early - With each hospital function assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
- Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and treatment plans
- Assist in maintaining relevant comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems.
- Attend monthly AllLead Meetings and any other mandatory meetings.
- Take the initiative to handle any client that seems to be uncomfortable or unhappy
with any aspect of the service. Identify their needs and define and implement
compassionate solutions for their concerns to ensure the clients satisfaction. - Obtain relevant health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts.
- Use safe restraining techniques follow standard protocols and sustain clean sterile organized treatment areas exam rooms and labs.
- Be willing to guide mentor and support fellow team members.
Experience & Skills Requirements:
- Clinical veterinary experience with Avian and Exotic species strongly preferred
- Leadership experience strongly preferred
- 2 3 years of clinical veterinary experience required
- Proficient in IV catheters placement blood work and IV IM and SQ injections
- Proficient in monitoring anesthesia and working with various monitoring equipment
- Team player
- Eager to learn and is selfmotivated
- Enjoys a challenging and fastpaced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multitask under pressure

Compensation negotiable based on credentials and experience with a hourly pay rate starting at$26$28/hour. The actual rate offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills qualifications experience and location.
4 Day Work Week (10 hour shifts). May include 1 weekend day.
