Minimum Qualifications

Experience Only:
Seven (7) years of fulltime professional experience dispatching traffic and incident management public relationscommunications operations management or any other high level customer support environment.

OR

Education and Experience:
A combination of related education and/or relevant experience (noted above) equal to seven (7) years. Related education:Business Public AdministrationCommunications Journalism Planning Public Relations Transportation Management Operations or a closely relateddegree


About the Work Unit

This position is within the Division of Maintenance and Operations and Traffic Operations Branch of the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). The Traffic Operations Services Branch exists to improve the safety and efficiency of Colorados transportation system through institutionalized and forward leaning realtime operational excellence. This is accomplished through two primary program areas the Operation Centers program and the Incident Response program. The Operation Centers program is focused on providing credible realtime information to the department first responders and public. The Incident Response program is focused on providing expert traffic incident management reduce roadway impacts and protect the lives of motorists and responders through coordinated and efficient incident response.


About the position

This position exists to be the team shift lead in the operation center. As such this position is responsible for the coordination timeliness and accuracy of the services provided by themselves and other team members on their shift. The other team members may include other FTE or contracted staff. This position assures that tasks are completed and resources are coordinated in alignment with policy and procedure. This position will coordinate with other CDOT personnel (i.e. operations maintenance/traffic public information) other state and local communication/dispatch centers and other operational stakeholders as necessary

Your duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Roadway System Monitoring Fluent understanding of the purpose and proper execution of monitoring the state roadway system to ensure accurate road conditions are known. Road conditions can include ensuring the current road surface weather conditions are displayed to the public incidents are detected or anything else that can impact the normal speed of traffic.
  • Incident/Event Detection Position will monitor roadways highways and interstates to detect and react to crashes stall and event impacting traffic
  • Incident (Unplanned) Event Management Position is responsible for managing event information for themselves and their assigned team to ensure product quality.
  • Public Messaging Position is fluid in the application of public facing messaging as it falls under the CTMC responsibility.
  • Radio System Position will have the responsibility of having comprehensive knowledge of processes surrounding the use of the State Digital trunked radio system ensuring quality and training of staff as it pertains to the use of Digital Trunked Radio and dispatch for CDOT maintenance forces and Safety Service Patrol and Rapid Response Teams.
  • Other job duties as assigned
Work Environment:
  • Schedule will be SunWednesday with Thursday Friday Saturday off.
  • Hours are a bit flexible anywhere between 6:00 AM 4:30 PM and 8:00 AM 6:30 PM.
  • Oncall for emergencies.

  • Experience in Traffic Operations Management Proven ability to oversee and manage transportation operation centers including realtime incident response and coordination with stakeholders.
  • Emergency and Incident Response Expertise Knowledge of emergency operations including planned and unplanned traffic incidents severe weather events and largescale event coordination.
  • Proficiency in Transportation Technology Systems Familiarity with Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) realtime traffic monitoring tools and messaging systems.
  • Data Analysis and DecisionMaking Experience in evaluating operational performance identifying trends and making datadriven decisions to improve traffic flow and incident management.
  • Excellent Communication and Negotiation Skills Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external partners lead meetings and advocate for operational improvements.
  • Ability to Work in HighPressure Environments Capability to make critical decisions during highimpact events while balancing safety mobility and public communication.
  • Strong time management skills including prioritization and multitasking ability.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel PowerPoint) SAP Google SharePoint and the ability to learn other software systems.
